Ten Second Review
Kia's XCeed gives the Korean maker yet another option to offer buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped compact SUV. You might feel that this bulging segment doesn't really need any further options but Kia was determined that the Ceed family should offer one and has engineered this smart Crossover contender with characteristic thoroughness.
Background
It's easy to see why Kia is offering this XCeed compact SUV; sales of Crossover models like this are going through the roof just at present. It's less easy to see where it fits within the Korean maker's model line-up. After all, at much the same price point as more affordable XCeed variants, Kia has its Stonic small Crossover. And plusher XCeed derivatives overlap with the brand's Niro SUV hybrids and some versions of the company's mid-sized Sportage SUV. Then of course there are also versions of the Ceed hatch, the Ceed Sportswagon estate and the ProCeed sports estate. Complicated isn't it...
Driving Experience
Don't expect shattering performance - but then buyers in the compact SUV segment aren't usually looking for that. The suspension has been revamped for SUV use compared with regular Ceed models so that it can combat this higher-sided model's body roll through the bends. The XCeed uses the same engines we're familiar with from elsewhere in the Ceed line-up. That means the range kicks off with a 118hp 1.0-litre T-GDi three cylinder petrol powerplant. Next up is a petrol 1.4 T-GDi with 138hp (also available with DCT auto transmission). The auto's not especially quick-responding, but it's a smooth-shifting 'box. Kia has also developed a 1.6-litre petrol plug-in hybrid variant you can ask your dealer about. The potent 201hp 1.6-litre petrol turbo unit from the Ceed GT is missing though.
If you want to fuel from the black pump, there's also a manual-only 1.6-litre CRDi diesel, offered with either 114hp or 134hp. And the brand is promising that the black pump-fuelled models will shortly be embellished with mild hybrid tech. All XCeeds get lane keep assist and forward collision warning fitted as standard, while pedestrian detection comes as part of an optional safety pack. The First Edition version also features smart cruise control (on DSG auto variants), plus blind spot collision warning and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Had the DCT on hire for a week. I dont like DCT as a rule, but Kia have done a good job with that box. The plastics are crap though, scratches just by looking at it. Infotainment is about as good as anything out there. Really good system, crisp and quick.

Great review. Purchased this car, but in Infra Red. This is a great car, for anyone thinking about buying the new Ceed, then go ahead. Especially the First Edition Variant with plenty of Spec. The only thing I would add would be Gt Line sideskirts. But Great car, Great Engine, and great spec for the money, especially if you buy second hand.

On the new infotainment is the bluetooth Media interface better than it used to be? In older Kia’s the car was basically giant headphones with just play pause skip. Can you now get LISTS of artist songs podcast etc and select one like you can in all VAG cars?

I had a Ceed 4 for 7 years it had electronic brakes and warming seats and drivers wheel and moved the seat automatically to fit my size and had electronic key opening. It was great no problems in those 7 years just needed new tyres. Daylight lights went out twice but were renewed free of charge. Now I’m waiting on delivery of a new one.

Ive just about to buy the connect limited edition model xceed. Had a hyundai kona previously. These 2 brands at the moment have my loyalty. Price wise,looks and fuel efficiency and warranty win me over. Great detailed review again top notch.

I love the car I have the red kia xceed 1.4 turbo petrol for £20 get 120 miles and it great to drive handles well turbo kicks in good and heated steering wheel and seats are nice touch pot holes in Birmingham are every were and kia goes over them nice it's great car

In other countries , like Romania , you get 2 tone on the outside of the seats and white cloth on the middle and you don't need to upgrade all the way to the first edition trim level...

I am trying to decide between a full spec diesel auto Xceed or Focus Active. They seem to be quite similar, from both reviews I could not figure which has better off-road features, better driving refinement and handling. It would be nice to have a comparison, eventually extended to more SUV oriented models like Mazda cx30 and equivalent.

I hate electronic handbrakes having suffered multiple failurers in my old (long gone) Passat so can you get the Xceed with a real manual HB?

I drove the xceed yesterday and from what I heard is that kia is a real reliable car be it mechanical or electrical . From my perspective it's a really good car especially having a 7 year warranty helps it's case a lot...

@@vladadrianionescu5958 I drive a 2015 Ce'ed (with h/b and spare) and it'sgood and I'm looking to change but I will not buy a care with an electronic H/b.....they are not safe. And I don 't like the trye repair kits that only work on a tyre without sidewall damage. Saying you trust Kia is like saying all air travel is safe because you have never crashed :)

My parents bought an Opel/Vauxhall Mokka x new and they made me responsabile for the option list 3 things I didn't want on the car. Tyre repair kit Electronic handbrake Electronic start/stop . But a know that with some cars in certain markets you don't get that option . The electronic hand brake being something that you can't option out in any market for any market unlike the repair kit and a normal key
