Butterflies in Japanese culture are associated with/representative of spirits of the dead. The butterfly in that Zoro flashback was 100% supposed to be Kuina. Possibly implying her spirit is still helping him with swordsmanship to this day. Just one of those subtle things from Goda.

The thing about the devils fruits is there can be shit ones, but it depends on the user. Think about Luffy's.. all the mf can do is stretch, but Luffy's battle tactics makes his devil fruit more OP than if someone like Usopp had it, if that makes sense. Chopper took his medical skills and turned a devil fruit that only (traditionally) had 3 forms and made 4 more forms. So it's honestly on the user.

Just rewatching it with u guys i just realized how none of the straw hats who have fought should of won apart from sanji. Zoro basically beat Mr 1 in one hit with plot which means if anyone can hurt Mr 1 once they will beat him. Oda knew if he gave Mr 1 a shred of endurance zoro would have probably died in that fight. All of them struggled for good real reasons, but sanji struggled cause he took unnecessary damage cause he couldnt hit Mr 2 when he changed to nami.
