I love Simon, and there's no doubt that his competitive nature is a big reason for his success. But his whiny self-talk doesn't come across very well on friendly Skins matches. Also: This makes me realize I probably act the same way in tournaments. Ouch.

I always think about the fact that he hates players talking over him when he throws only to proceed with talking over everyone else instead. I still enjoy watching his channel but it's not hard to notice when that happens

I was a Simon fan at first but his self talk took a toll on me very quickly.

I know this isn't specifically a German thing, but I do know a lot of German-born people and every single one of them are like this. Just very self-aware in their outward vocalization. The big difference is, it's mostly "matter of fact." He will talk himself out loud on a bad shot, and may even get frustrated. But within 10 seconds he'll always also comment an exceptional shot from a cardmate, or offer support on someone else's shot. Just not a lot of brake-power between the brain and the mouth.

When I’m playing with other people I keep my self talk internal. If I knew I was also mic’d up for youtube I would definitely keep that shit internal! 😅

I am sure you are all a blast to play with. His game has been off for months and this is a practice round before the biggest tournament of the year. Simon has a good attitude on the reg when on camera. Chalk it up to an off game. Much love for Simon and his nature appreciation moments. Never know what someone might be dealing with.
