I am absolutely fascinated by otessa. each novel is a new world in time and space. I love falling down her rabbit holes and discovering something new about myself through her fascinating characters. her talent for storytelling is incredible.

It is very refreshing to see and hear this writer speak one on one as it were. I just was in the bookstore yesterday and saw several copies of My Year...and am thinking more now of purchasing.

Best novel I’ve read in 10 years easily

Moshfegh is fire. I read almost every book of her, everything except "McGlue" and "Lapvona". In my opinion "My Year of Rest and Relaxation" is not even her best. But somehow it's still the most popular... maybe because the cover is pretty catchy, so it trended on social media during Corona. "Eileen" is really good. Currently I´m reading "Homesick for another world" and even though I´m normally not that into short stories, I love it and would totally recommend it.

that's what the middle of MYoRaR felt like to me. The MC's meds *had* to give her these blackouts for her to get out of her hibernation and doing stuff. It's good for suspense and moves the plot forward but not much became of it in a narrative sense (which is what i think some critics were referring to). it did allow fresh observations from the character which is the novel's primary vehicle -- and fun. I really liked the flow of the book because it felt like a dream.

I dont find her interpretation of the dating scene at the millennium very realistic in rest and relaxation. You would need a time machine I suppose to truly know what it was like but theres just some things that stand out as obvious to me that would not happen.

It is accurate for a depressed lonely orphan selfish woman finding needing anything to hold into in NYC.
