..as comet dust enters our sky So many of us cry The dying of the old earth The primal desire of the mother to rise toward the light So much change So much suprise Causing tears from the eye The raven alights Tors ax flies The ocean rises Many suprises Odin has made clear The way is clear

Tarro, or Tharapita, is mentioned in sources as the supreme deity of the ancient Estonians, the ancestors of modern Estonians. Information about him was preserved by the chronicler Henry of Livonia in his Chronicle of Livonia, written in the 13th century. According to the chronicle, the Estonians revered Tarro as their chief god and believed he came from the island of Saaremaa (Ösel). The name Tarro is sometimes associated with other Indo-European and Finno-Ugric deities, but this remains a subject of debate among scholars. Some researchers see a connection between Tharapita and Thor (the Scandinavian god of thunder), while others associate him with the image of a supreme sun-worship deity. It is possible that the Estonians viewed Tarro as the protector of their people, which explains his central place in their beliefs. The worship of Tarro was not limited to the island alone. His cult may have spread to the mainland territory of ancient Estonia. Sacrifices, ritual festivals, and other ceremonies could have been connected to the veneration of this deity, indicating his significant role in the culture and religion of the Estonians before the arrival of сhristianity.
