This guy was one of the greatest role players of the 80s and 90s NBA. A quiet guy, no flash or frills, he might have made one or two All-Star appearances, can't remember. This dude just came to work and gave you a steady 15-20pts, 10 rebounds.

Never got the full respect he deserved and Houston shouldn't have traded him when they did. The 2 man game with Hakeem and Otis was a thing of beauty. Nice vid 👍

OT, will always be my guy. He helped Olajuwon so much, it was good to see Hakeem finally have that help, and he filled in the blank perfectly, and I hated when they traded him, but understood after I saw it was Clyde. Thorpe will always have love in Houston. 💯. Rockets for life...m💯💯💯💯

Bout time someone recognized this guy he helped the Rockets win championships. For like 2-3 years straight nobody in the NBA dunked more than this guy and he had a very good career. He averaged over 14 plus pts and 8 plus rebounds a game and decent defender and passer for his career!!! which means he was a good player that could be the goto guy when needed and he did that.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I am SO glad Otis Thorpe won a ring in 1994-95. I wanted SO badly for the Sonics to trade Kendall Gill for Otis Thorpe, because that trade would have helped BOTH teams. Portland needed a talented scoring 2-guard in Kendall Gill, as they traded Clyde Drexler. Otis Thorpe would have been a GREAT backup 4 for those Sonics teams in 1995-1998. I used to be a lifeguard. When I'd teach the younger kids, and take them to the POOL basketball hoop, I'd lift them up, and let them dunk. I'd demonstrate, using a one-handed Otis Thorpe dunk! The Otis Thorpe Song: (From Heigh Ho): "That guy who plays forward for the Houston Rockets name is Thrope!" (the Heigh Ho Hum part) "Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, Just look at Otis go! He'll work all day and hard he'll play, Heigh Ho!"

Me and my cousins once saw Otis Thorpe at a bowling alley on S. Gessner in Houston. He waved at us with one hand while palming a heavy rated bowling ball in the other. No fingers in the holes. Then OT threw it down the lane as pins crashed into the next lane. 😭 The attendant had to come out and toss the pins back in the box in his own lane. Still the craziest display of manly strength I've ever seen!

As much as I loved Mad Max, it would've been great if Houston could've traded Mad Max and a draft pick or two for Clyde instead of OT. OT would've made Houston a more complete team. I highly doubt Chicago, even with Rodman could beat Houston with OT & Clyde

Otis Thorpe was one of my favorite players . He came along at a time when the NBA was full of talent and his greatness kind of got lost in it . I watched Otis ever since he came on the college scene with his quiet workman like demeanor and he always put of solid numbers . When he went to the NBA his game got even better and he was built like a brick wall . He could do it all rebound ob both ends of the floor, run the floor on the fast break and finish with that patented one handed dunk . He played the position they way it was supposed to be under and around the rim not how these players of today love to stand around the three point circle. Otis was one of the greats in my book . His play left a lasting impression on me .
