So here's a Theroy about the song So the girl is very suicidal, and tried to kill herself several times. But in her favor her Boyfriend saved her. But she soon realized that she wanted her Boyfriend's attention. So she decided that she's going to hurt herself as much as possible. Finally, her Boyfriend realizes what she's doing, and decides to breakup with her. Soon after she's at the pool, and decides to try one more time, but this time her Boyfriend wasn't there thus she drowned. "Please someone let me die" Was how I knew she was suicidal. "How I wish that those words was mine" Was saying how she wishes to be dead "Come gather round we're slicing her open" Was telling how she cuts herself "Im alive, but there's nothing much to discuss" Was her response to her Boyfriend, when he asked how was she "Im itching from all the shame inside" She felt guilty that she was trying to hurt herself, and kept on dragging her Bf in her problems "I hope There's love for me too, but ah from who" I feel like at this point her Bf decided to break up with her because he realized that she was using her problem to get his attention When the black cat comes from behind and she has a tail it probably means that she has bad luck very often. From the look of things, she did have suicidal thoughts in the beginning. But as it goes on, she enjoyed the attention her boyfriend gave her, and feel guilty that she liked it and keep doing it. From the second part, she clearly is also paranoid, not wanting him to leave her for someone else... which only motivates her to continue her 'SOS call'. At some point he realized and got tired of it, so she tried one more time. However, he didn't show up to stop her this time, thus she truly died. She reaching out at the end showed her regrets, either wanting to apologize and see him one last time or she realizing she actually didn't want to die and only want to be with him.

Ok, two years after the song is out, and I wanna put my own theory out there. And there are a lot of “suicidal girl” theories on here, but I think I’m going to add a twist to those. Also, this theory relies on the idea that the song is not a linear story, but a rush of memories swirling around in the singers head at the end of it. My theory: I think the boy being sung to is a crush she has, like on an old friend or someone’s she’s close to (when it seems like she’s talking to him, she’s very casual and soft, like she knows him). The only issue is that he has a girlfriend, and one that he really loves at that. So, the singer gets jealous and tries to get the boys attention by spreading gossip, rumours, etc about the girlfriend in an attempt to get him to leave her. Each time it gets worse and worse, and is ruining the girlfriends mental health, causing her to go into a depression (the lyric “someone let me die”), but the boyfriend doesn’t believe any of the lies and continues to support her (“your stubbornness claims my mind” further in the song). This takes a toll on the singer, causing her to think she’ll never get the boy and causing her a form of depression (the lyric “how I wish those words were mine”), but continues to spread rumors, feeling slightly bad about starting the rumours (the lyric “I’m itching from all the shame inside”) but takes solace in the idea that it’s all so she can get the boy she loves. Eventually, the rumours blowback in her face and she gets exposed for being a terrible person, causing her to fall apart, and wishing she never met the boy or something similar (“every emotion I wanted to share by your side, now it’s love I wanna cut from my life” making it seem she’s regretful of her love for him). In the end, she goes to the boy (or makes her come to him) and threatens to kill herself if he doesn’t love her. He refuses, and so she does, and in her last moments wishes he would rush to her calling her name, and realizing that this was the culmination of her own actions consequences. At the very end, she accepts the pain and death as the “right” ending for her, not necessarily remorseful of her actions, but rather finding it a fitting end for herself(“the pain just feels so damn right”).

Its pretty clear "Slicing her open" means spreading rumours and lies about her and exposing her faults and flaws. So this song is about the pain of gossip, rumours, and lies can cause to a person's mind. It drives it home with the line "We all just want some spice from our lives and we know it", showing the real motives and reasonings behind drama and gossip. Follow up: Its also possible the girl was dating and confided into someone else, now her ex, and when they did break up, he told everyone about the things she confided, explaining the phone call at the start.

Good notes. I had a slightly different interpretation, I imagined it was of someone suffering depression and low self esteem in a relationship, who also had a bit of a flaw for gossip, manipulation and drama. She feels a heavy boredom, and doesn't feel connected in this relationship as it is too simple, possibly cannot believe they like her back...so she decides to say very suprising things to get them to pay more attention. The goal being to shock her partner into thinking she doesn't care, that she's spreading rumors, she's leaving, in danger, she's suicidal, etc, and hoping that shocking her partner by saying such things all the time will create drama that brings her out of depression and helps her feel more alive. In the day to day, she feels her partner is not being "real" and honest with her, being boring and quiet in public out of shame perhaps, so saying shocking things will kinda force them to stop being passive and pay more attention to her and be in the moment as well. That may be very harsh, however, and my other notion is that she and her partner are simply not very open with each other, and so their relationship is kind of boring to her. If they could be more open without the "shame," have excitement and spice in life, she could come out of her funk.

I always thought this was about a girl and her unrequited love. In the song when in says, “I had this dream you were happily in love without a girl you don’t need.” I thought she meant that the person she was in love with was in love with someone else and didn’t need her because he didn’t love her. The song also says “How stupid,” I sigh. Your stubbornness claims my mind...” I feel like she means that she’s stupid for loving them because they’ll never love her back. Still she can’t get over them because their stubbornness claims her mind, she can’t stop thinking about them. I think that “come gather round we’re slicing her open...” and “someone let me die...” means that she’s cutting herself and wants to die since this person doesn’t like her back. Also when the song says, “envious madness that’s making me lose all my mind, you’re so cold now tell me why...” this leads me to believe that she’s jealous of this whoever this person’s in love with and thinks that that is what’s causing them to be cold to her. But that’s just what I think. Some lyrics don’t go with this theory like “saliva coats the lies we tell as I’m broken...” maybe they’re in a affair and the person has a lover already. ... why does everyone seem to think whoever she's talking to is alive...? Theory: I think that she's talking to someone, a close friend or maybe SO, but in every interaction she's alone. I believe she's talking to someone who died, that she blames herself for their death. 0:57 - 0:59, "feelings too frail to touch", "trapped and can't get out", "fading SOS", "quiet purring too dazed to make a sound" - and she's the cat - "love I want to cut from my life". My theory is that her friend, "feelings too frail to touch" - "flirts masking their faces", seems to be in a bad situation, and she's their escape. As they continue to rely on her, she begins to waver, becoming quieter, dazed, and fading out. Maybe that bad situation is their past together, and in the present, her friend/SO is dead/dying. They couldn't hang on, and she blames herself for it. She's in denial, but being blamed for it by her memories ("come gather round, we're slicing her open" followed by the word "praying" then "early noise"? Nightmares and memories.), which leads to suicidal ideation ("someone let me die, how I wish those words were mine" (also lending credence to her friend being in the process of dying, which is countered by "you're so cold now, tell me why" which would suggest them being dead and physically cold to the touch)), and seems to result in her death - or, and hear me out, the realisation that this significant person in her life is dead/just died. Since she blames herself for their situation, their death and her pain seem to be a righteous punishment ("feels so dam right"). (This part's harder to prove and as such isn't a part of the above theory. It's entirely possible that her friend became her SO, and she couldn't deal with that. Maybe they were bullied, maybe they were abused, but in this theory, they used her as emotional support - their only pillar, only reason to stay alive. She couldn't take it, and broke down, maybe she said something about how they should just die. (When something is said to you enough, you start to believe it. If they constantly said they should die, that they would deserve it, that they're only alive because of her, because she loved them, then slowly, over years of this, she began to believe it. If they're only alive for her, and she wants them out of her life, then why are they alive.) Maybe it was less than that, a "get out of my life". They responded by whispering her name, and she left. That's when they attempted to end their own life. (For her, that entire relationship was one painful, endless, boring cycle. Boring because, well, when you're trapped like that, you tend to disassociate. Ending it added spice, but she never really understood the consequences of it until their death.) I just want to make it clear - *this girl is not a villain in my theory* and neither is their friend. When you're desperate, you do desperate things. And in a situation like that, you're plenty desperate. Trust me. Maybe that's what happened, maybe I'm projecting a little bit. Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok, So a lot of people have a theory about how the girl is suicidal, But what if it was her partner who was suicidal and she was the one having to deal with it. This is mostly based off the lyrics and not really the imagery, So the girl starts dating this guy who she’s deeply in love with, Turns out the guy is extremely suicidal and mentally ill taking out all of his anger on her. Despite that she tries really hard to comfort him and make him feel loved. The beginning of the song starts off with the, “Come gather round we’re slicing her open,” Blah Blah Blah and it ends off with “The pain it feels so right. Perhaps this is her describing her abuse, How he “slices” her open, This can be literal or methodically I’m not really sure. The next few lines are her talking about how she’s been, How she’s fine and there’s not much to discuss, This is her covering up for her own lovers actions. She kinda hints at it by saying, “I’m alive but can’t say there’s much to discuss.” Then it goes on and ends with, “A quiet purring to dazed to make a sound.” This is hinting that she’s to in love to see what is happening is wrong, She doesn’t wanna break up with him, She then finally snaps out of it and realizes what is happening which is why she starts getting angry saying that, “All the emotions I wanted to share by your side, Now it’s love I wanna cut from my life!” She attempts to break up with him but the guy can’t take it, “Someone let me die! When she wakes up she immediately wakes up her partner by calling his name and apologizes for the “Early noise” claiming that she only wanted to hear his voice, She describes her nightmare in which her partner was instead in love with someone else he “didn’t need”. She becomes more obsessive forcing him to stay over and not go anywhere else in fear they might breakup or fall out of love, “Envious madness is making me lose all my mind.” She starts to notice her lover seems irritated by her wanting him to stay and starts to realize he had been like that for a few days now, “Your so cold now tell me why?” He once again takes his anger out on her but she doesn’t mind anymore, She WANTS it. They end up breaking up in the end, The boyfriend realizes just how bad he hurt her and decides it’s better they stay apart. The girl is shocked at first, She begs him to stay but he already made up his mind. She agrees in the end, She realizes how the pain of losing him felt somewhat “right”.

I'm bad at reading into meanings of music and it's kinda shit but i tried : The speaker has a crush on someone who has been their friend for a long while but they have their own crush on another girl. The speaker is jealous and "slices her open" by trying to expose every little thing the girl has done and creating rumors to paint her in a bad light. The phone call could be the speaker talking to the friend/crush because they like talking to them. They say they can't get them out of their mind because they like them. "Two flirts still masking their faces, yours and mine" could mean they are both masking their crushes from each other even tho the speaker is aware of the friend's/crush's crush. The person trapped and can't get out, calling for SOS could be referring to the speaker as they are trying to get their crushes attention but nothing is working, they are trapped having to deal with the pain of their crush turning all their attention over to another girl and nothing is working (I don't really know on these lines i'm guessing things 😭) Every emotion i wanted to feel by your side just means her wanting to being in a loving relationship with her crush going through lots of different and new things together. Sorry for all the early noise, guess i just wanted to hear your voice. She calls her crush early in the morning wanting to listen to their voice (pretty self explanatory) The "'someone let me die', i wish those words were mine" Could refer to the girl becoming suicidal from the rumors and bullying caused by the speaker, and the friend comforts and tries to help them. The speaker is jealous of all the attention the girl is getting due to their suicidalness thus them wishing they got the same treatment. i'm tired as hell and i might finish this another time adios

The three theories I find most accurate are- 1.) she’s already dead and is progressively finding out that she actually did die. I think her picking up phones and getting no response and then being shocked when she finds out she’s made of bones clearly represents this. There’s also a body bag she is zipped up in at the end which also proves this theory. 2.) When’s she’s talking about “we’re slicing her open” it could mean that she being rude or spreading lies about the girl she sees as a rival because they both like the same boy. Causing the girl who she said all of those things about to kill herself making her feel guilty. 3.) This song is about a person who already killed themselves. The dancing with bones and the constant talk about being cold and wishing that the words of wanting to die were her own further prove this theory. Maybe she didn’t get to help her friend who was suffering and they ended up killing themselves. So now she feels like its her fault and she should have been the one. I don’t like the theory about her hurting herself and getting her lover to come and save until he finally decides to not. I don’t know why but something about it doesn’t add up in my opinion. There are other theories that people mentioned but these are the ones I feel make the most sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are multiple meanings like literal and metaphorical. This is also a translated version of the song so maybe some lyrics were lost or changed in translation.

First of all: Love the song and have been aching for a translation! Good Job! Just a detail: あの夜から -> from that night on, I am kinda missing that meaning somewhere. Maybe instead of saying "the pain feels so right" rather "[somethingsomething] since last (friday?) night"? Rhymes the same and I kinda feel this is an important part of the songs meaning. Still, hats off for your translations. Song translation is so much harder than usual one...I did that once and there are just so many more constraints. No wonder the direct translations always wonder off to some completely different parts of the song :D

My theory is that she’s bored of life. She has a partner, hobbies, etc. but she’s just tired of it. She feels like she understands exactly how her partner will respond next to what she does, her hobbies don’t particularly interest her anymore, and she’s looking for anything to spark some energy back in her life. “I wish somebody would let me die” but she doesn’t really even mean that either. She’s just perpetually tired and bored of everything.
