The Bayview stop is near the old location of the Ottawa West CP station, where passenger trains would continue across the Prince Of Wales bridge, through Hull, then back across the Alexandra bridge to the old Union Station on Wellington. It was a beautiful set-up.

Hi, I'm a Canadian living just north of Sydney, Australia. The train system you have in Ottawa is very similar to what we have in the CBD (Central Business District) in Downtown Sydney. No one ever calls it 'Downtown Sydney' it's just known as the CBD. We have the Trams going through the CBD on the surface from the Starting point at Central Station. That is to cut down on the amount of Traffic that goes through the CBD on a daily basis. The rest of what we have is the Sydney Transport trains, which they are all through every burb of Sydney that you can think of. They are the double decker carriages.The train system here is great; when I moved here, I thought I have died and gone to heaven because transportation system was so far ahead of Canada. I didn't realize that Ottawa had it's own train system and I think that's great and it's mirroring what Sydney has already done about 20 years ago. Here is one of the links for the Vlogs I watch for the Sydney: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eajSZWOOmdyKr80, and from there you can follow this dude on his vlogs.

@Transitfan937 ай бұрын
@@SkyOfTheUniverse Yeah they disagree on the root cause, they say the bolt that was keeping the wheels together was getting loose because of the sharp curves at a number of stations, like the approaches in and out of Hurdman, the sharp right hand curve out of Rideau, the right hand curve out of Tremblay, and the 2 curves west of St Laurent

TBC, the weekend service level always was single car trainsets. They were actually running more kms than required on weekends until last week only due to a variation.

Most of the stations are named for the cross streets (Tremblay Road) or landmarks (Tunney's Pasture). The exception is Pimisi which was chosen to replace the original, LeBreton Flats, to acknowledge the indigenous history of the area. Tunney's Pasture was expropriated for use a federal government office park in 1947. Until then, cows grazed on the land.

In your time there, would you say that one can get around Ottawa using only public transport? And is it somewhat reliable? I saw a lot of pauses in this video, so maybe the frequency of the O-Train isn't that great?
@SkyOfTheUniverse7 ай бұрын
Yeah I'd say not as good as Montreal but from the day I spent there it seemed ok. But yes there were a few pauses you are correct
@gdkid7 ай бұрын
Until all components of the Stage 2 extensions open (west, east and south), it's very hard to live car-free over here. The buses right now are not that great because their old dedicated right of ways are no longer usable since that's where they're extending the train, therefore buses now get re-routed into mixed traffic The O-Train frequencies suck on weekends, but during rush hours it gets boosted up to a train every 4 minutes. We used to have 5 minute headways on weekends as well, but that was cut for maintenance reasons. Hopefully we'll be getting it back once they finish redesigning the train's wheel axle hub assemblies
@mlmielke7 ай бұрын
@gdkid Correction: weekend service is at about every 9 minutes due to an OCT operational decision because of weekend "demand" - not due to maintenance. Btw, also, it is precise terminal departure scheduling even to the seconds.

What do you think of the O-train?
@SkyOfTheUniverse7 ай бұрын
I liked it! It was smooth, comfortable, etc. Just a bit noisy on the curves haha
@toddoddity39767 ай бұрын
All the noise and vibrations around the tight curves is due to the contractor not building the rails to spec, and Alstom not building the trains to spec. After a lot of investigation it was discovered the private project managers responsible for building the system weren't bothering to make sure any of it would actually work together! Has been quite the scandal - but slowly it is getting fixed. The rails are being adjusted as needed, and Alstom is completely redesigning the axle assemblies for the trains. Once the new axles are installed a lot of the vibration and rumbling should be minimized.
