Went out to test my new camera and housing (having never used it including the video function) and 45 seconds into the water I noticed an otter passing right below me (while trying to figure inspect the housing for leaks). Knowing how 'people shy' they are I gave up looking for it quite early and kept inspecting the new camera...when all of a sudden something was pressing on my shoulder, I looked to my left and there, right on my shoulder pushing down with two little hands was the otter, 'sitting' on my shoulder to try and get a peek of what I was up to! I was stunned!! I was hesitant to move but the otter pushed off and continued to play with my fins, new housing and even latched onto my arm a few times with its tiny hands every time I was paying too much attention to the camera! This is undoubtedly a VERY rare interaction and I'm very grateful for it:)
As mentioned I'm still completely unfamiliar with the video function so the video isn't pristine but its surely good enough:)

Stunning footage!!!!! - and right under the city dweller's noses , too. Our otters are precious and are there for all to see - if you just open your eyes.. Now, do your best to help save the otters in the highly polluted Disa River in Hout Bay. We've already lost one mature adult otter to pollution this year. Petition your local councilor, put pressure on the Table Mountain National Park custodians, think out of the box.... BUT - DO SOMETHING!!

Very nice vid. Thanks for posting. I didn't know that Cape Clawless Otter swims in salt water in the kelp forest. Strange - great eye-opener.
