in 1997 I drove my Subaru to Mazatlan, and took the ferry to LaPaz in the Baja. After 3 months, heading north, somewhere halfway up, so far from any town, it was evening. Not a car on that road for miles, and in that empty void..in the utter aloneness of that giant space I put the Ottmar Liebert cassette in and this was the song that played.

The first time I heard Ottmer Liebert, I was walking in the Mall in Austin, TX. I heard music I never heard before, and walked in the store and bought his CD!

First time I heard Ottmar, I was at my uncles place for dinner with my family. He had the “Borrasca” album playing and I was listening intently and I loved it. The next day, I was down at my local mall with my dad and I saw the same CD in stock and I bought it straight away. I was then told he’d be playing live at the mall and I was so excited I took the afternoon off school to see him. I met him afterwards and got the CD signed. I’ve still got it after all that time. Pity though, he hasn’t been back since.

When I lived in New Mexico, I loved just strolling around the Santa Fe Plaza People watching & sitting on the Balcony of the "Ore House" (Now Thunderbird) Restaurant w/ margaritas & chips. One of these days in the early 1990's, I happened to be walking thru the La Fonda Hotel, & heard this wonderful music coming from one of the small side niches of the lobby area. Turned out, It was Ottmar Leibert & Luna Negra before they released their 1st album. This song takes me back to those Days & Evenings on the plaza & always makes me feel at home.

Recent heat waves in Cali reminded of this timeless tune from Ottmar. Had the good fortune seeing him play in Monterey, CA in 1991 when he started touring.. No one ever thought to take photos back then as we were all experiencing the moment. 30 years later...

I remember buying this cassette back in the late spring of 1993. I used to live down in the Rio Grande valley of Texas. I would listen to it on warm and breezy spring and summer days and nights. Really brings back memories of the beach and my days carousing the valley and Northern Mexico.

I'm a former gringo long haired rock drummer from the 70's who believe it or not knows and loves great music from many different artists. Have loved Ottmar Liebert and Johannes Linstead from way way back. Simple in their joy and perfect in their presentation! If by chance you havbe never heard the music of 21 Grammy Award winner Pat Metheney check out his perfection as well!

This does sound like Santa Fe; as a boy I would spend summer days here and the cool evening of the mile and half high city was evocative; the Sangre de Christo mountains in the background. I knew it was a special place and I'll never forget those precious moments.

HERMOSA MELODIA...
