Otto Link "new" Vintage Tone Edge 8* vs D'addario Select Jazz D7M

I used two different reeds on two different places.
Sax Gear:
1.) Trevor James Signature Custom RAW tenor
2.) Otto Link New Vintage Tone Edge 8*
3.) D'addario Select Jazz D7M
4.) D'addario Select Jazz 3S reed
5.) D'addario Royal 3 reed
For the first test, I used a Daddario Royal 3 reed for both mouthpieces and you can hear that the Otto Link has a more solid tone with this reed. well the reed is softer than compared to the Select Jazz 3S reed I used also for both mouthpieces which is way stiffer compared to the Royal reed which in turn showed that the Select Jazz D7M is superior with the stiffer reed. It might be due to the closer facing.

Very little in it but I think I prefer the Otto Link, it appears to have just a bit more body. Which do you prefer? I'm currently using a Meyer 6M with my Sig Custom Raw. Similar results with a Vandoran and Vintage Selmer Solist c*. Would a jump from a 6 to an 8 opening be too much. I'm not in a position to try out pieces unfortunately. Currently using a Ligere 2.75 reed. Anyway you're getting a wonderful sound from you new sax.

well I actually prefer the Link now, mainly because of the more open facing. I have yet to try the Select Jazz soon once I have it refaced to have an 8* facing hehe

The difference is about which feels better to achieve your sound.

yep! at first it will sound very different from each other but the longer u play with the pieces, the more u get to sound like you. but for these 2 I tried here the big difference I can find is how my middle range notes feel and sound like.

@@ed.z. at the moment of recording this video, the modern vintage works better for me. but now, I'm back to a Select Jazz but a D9M size. I do find it working better all throughout the range than the Link but it's missing a bit of the low range sound that I want.

@@saxxykv I also had faced that same issue so, I found a good Vandoren V16 T7 and i just can’t preform a whole gig with my bottom end. I played an expensive high baffle silver hand made piece and I was miserable without the lush sub tone available a whole show. So, a Florida Link or the V16 is good for now and maybe forever.

Mmmm. Nothing in it. Little more air in the Otto. But saying that the other one is only a 7 in an 8 would probably sound the same..

@@haroldpizer9271 Otto Link modern vintage has a high angled beak which is kinda uncomfortable since I was so used to the Select jazz at first. but eventually I got used to it though sometimes I still find the Link too wide.
