As a student in the UK, it’s easy to be ignorant of anything other than ‘western’ architecture. I’m fascinated by Sinan and his work and wish I had more time to learn about it! I think it’s important to be aware of the many masterpieces constructed during this period outside the world of the Italian Renaissance.

the amount of hallucinogenics used , remains unknown :) why is the byzantine culture being dismissed? Hagi Sophia was a christian cathedral before it got "upgraded" by the Muslims. it was a marvel of it's time due to the incredible wide ceiling span that didn't needed support columns .

The architect Sinan was a Greek, he was baptized Orthodox and his name was Iosif Doganoglou from the village of Agioi Anargyroi in Cappadocia where almost only Orthodox Greeks lived at that time. He was one of the small children who were taken from their parents by the Turks and made into Janissaries.
