This is just my opinion. Stars next to recruit's names are great, but I believe it's how you develop those bluechip players that matter most.

I'm afraid we won't be a big surprise in the SEC, if we keep broadcasting how good these kids 😅 really are 😊

stars matter but having a coaching staff who can recruit the right players at the right star level matters more.....there are going to be 5 stars that excel and 5 stars who fail.....you need a coach who can identify which is which...i would rather have a coachable 4/3 star player who can develop than a 5 star kid who can't....riley should have shown us that all 5 stars are not the same.....

Further data and drilling in on the 4/5 stars suggests that what really matters in terms of NFL draft picks are the top 70ish national players. The mid 4 star #150 player in the country is barely more likely to be drafted than a high 3 star #500 player in the country. The guys who are high 4 stars and 5 stars are the real difference makers in terms of percentages, the rest are barely discernable from each other. So when a team has a lot of 4 stars but they are all like #100-250 recruits in the country, it might as well be a lot of 3 stars that are #250-600 recruits in the country. Really very, very little difference. That's what the NFL draft data shows. So I don't really love Bud Elliot's ratios because it says that a 4 star #200 player is equally as important as a 5 star #17 player, and it's just wildly inaccurate.

I think the blue chip ratio is more about quality depth than star power. A team with quality depth has a higher chance of winning as players get rotated every game for freshness, or if your top 50 guy goes down, you have someone who can still get some production.

@truthlegends9541 but the point is a 4 star often isn't better depth than a 3 star in terms of quality. If I'm picking ill take the 4 sta4 guy over the 3 star, but give me 1 5 star over four 4 stars almost every time.

@Collador19 I get your point, but there are 123 Division 1 football teams. If your cut-off is the top 600 guys, that means on average, each team should only have about 5 players in the top 600 rankings in each recruiting class or 20 out of a 53 man roster (around 35 percent) for Freshman to Senior. Which means a vast majority of division 1 teams can't even start top 600 guys on both sides of the ball, so when a team is sitting at 70-80 percent of their team are top 350ish (4 stars or higher) then it is a huge advantage. That means that not only their starters are going to be more talented, but their 2 deep is more talented than the average team.

@Collador19 I just looked up the 30th recruiting class for last year (Washington) and they have 8 out of 16 (50%) high school recruits in the top 600. While Oklahoma has 21 out of 27 (77.7%) in the top 600 (via 247 composite). That gives Oklahoma better quality depth than Washington who had a better recruiting class than 75 percent of division 1 football.

@@truthlegends9541I'm not comparing with everyone, just top teams. But good stuff.
