Evil requires intent. Children aren't born knowing everything, they don't have the same level of emotional understanding or regulation, or the tools of how to process problems and handle them. These things have to be taught. Being taught evil, or not how to be good and help yourself and others, is what turns children nasty and keeps them that way through life. @@artemsmirnov1134

The good thing about Rumple, never gets involved in fighting kids and their likes. Both Regina and Zelena are emotional and impulsive fight everything including their own shadows. It's as though they have to prove their power every moment.

It is. Two different versions of the Hansel and Gretel story happened in the show. One in Oz and one in the Enchanted Forest. Both taking place before the original Dark Curse.
