First I'd like to say something to Colette. Your soul shines now. I can see your happiness and you have been inspiring me. My heart aches for the type of bond you have with y pi or daughters. My mother turned her back on me when I needed her most. I love your videos so much. One thing I love most is that you have really changed my preconceptions about religious families. I actually used to be LDS, though my experiences with religious people eventually lead me to become an atheist. When I began questioning the doctrine (I was about 19), my uncle, who I had been really close with, refused to speak with me further, and he ignored me for years after that. When my mother (his sister) died in 2013, he didn't even try to contact me himself, instead he had his wife send me an email. I'm now 35, and that uncle still has never spoken to me since I began questioning the church. After I officially left LDS, the missionaries would come track me down at work, corner me, and try to pressure me into returning. This continued for over a year after I left the church, until I finally moved out of that town. In the years that followed, I was repeatedly told how I was going to hell, how I supposedly worshiped Satan, how I was this horrible person and the scum of the Earth because I didn't believe in God anymore. Once I began to openly identify as atheist, it got much worse, people telling me they wish I was dead, how I if I don't believe in God I should leave America, how my support for equality and the LGBT community would be punished by God, etc. My point is, my life experiences have given me a very cold and bitter view of religious families, but seeing your videos gives me hope. I see the joy and happiness you and your family exhibit, and I only wish there had been a family like yours at my church. I probably would have become an atheist either way once I started getting into science and astronomy, but maybe I could have had less bitter memories. Anyway, thank you for what you do, and I will continue to be here to enjoy your vlogs. Thank you for the joy and happiness you pass on to others, and for the feeling of hope you have given this atheist.
