Ooooh I love that you guys are branching from your exiting formula for content offered on the channel. I’ve honestly really enjoyed the occasional videos ranging from “All Patched Up”, “We’ve bought it so you don’t have to” and even the more obscure “Tackling or Battling the Backlog” and the few retrospectives (loved to hear more from each of you on games you really cherish & enjoy.) but I digress, gratz on another refreshing video series!!! 🎉

I hear you about just having one game as a kid and maxing it, me and my brother must have played resident evil 3 about 10 times. There was something really cool about squeezing the absolute maximum out of a game, nowadays it almost feels like a disposable culture where you just move onto the next one

i still try to do this. my personal rule is I'm not allowed to start more than one new game per month. and even with that rule i still end up only playing a couple of games per year. it really does make you be more selective and appreciate your time gaming more IMO.
@augursabound
@augursabound Жыл бұрын
@thanksgivingh6185 yeah totally agree with that concept, also it means you spend less time searching for new games. I haven't got the discipline to only play two a year though lol
@thanksgivingh6185

@@augursabound well with my own tailored rule I have the option of up to 12 per year! (which is still a lot IMO and i pretty much never hit lol). and the games I pick I can always go back to. i truly do believe the endless and limitless options does more harm than good in the end. When I watch a lot of these content creators that have to play(and rush) through every single release, I do feel bad for them because I know that they can't truly enjoy, appreciate, or build lasting memories as easily.

Just a few days ago, I finished Fire Emblem GBA for the first time. I still have my gba cartridge. Though I've played and beaten my fair share of Fire Emblem games and strategy games, this still took me over 30hrs to beat even with the rewind feature. The difficulty and strategy is still there on the gba.

My mate had a SNES before me and we played Mario Kart and Zombies Ate My Neighbors on his B&W TV! When I finally got one, strangely, I loved Super Tennis but Cannon Fodder was my favourite along with International Superstar Soccer. N64 was my stoner phase: Zelda, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Shadow Man while listening to (Cypress Hill's Temples Of Boom) and more ISS. Great memories. Thanks.

I was that older brother like Mark's.😄 Playing games with my younger brother was so fun back in the day. I pretty much was the one who got the systems and bought the games. I saved up allowances and did chores to get what I wanted. We had an NES and I bought a GBA. My favorite game on the NES was Tecmo Bowl. Played it so much with my stepdad. Metroid Fusion was my favorite GBA game. It was the first Metroid game I ever played and I remember being blown away by the graphics, sound, and depth of the game. My cousins owned SNES and N64 consoles. Donkey Kong Country was mind-blowing at the time. It was like playing an animated movie. Also, Mario 64 was something special too. A lot of younger gamers will look back at those games and not understand the hype. But for us gamers back in the day, so many of these titles were truly "next-gen".

Really enjoyed playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game on GBC app. Missed it when it first came out so it was great to have a chance to play it. There's so much potential for NDS, GBC even Wii games to come over. I don't know why Nintendo don't capitalise on it.

i honestly don't think theres that many Wii games that would hype people up other than Mario Galaxy(2?) or Twilight princess which could both easily get rereleased full price. lot of the flagship titles were multiplayer games with more modern renditions or games heavily reliant on the motion control phenomenon which caught fire for a brief time. As for GCN they know the value of those and are aware that almost all of the bigname titles could catch big price rereleases.

I agree with most of the picks, especially, Golden Eye, Mario 1, Mario Land 2, Donkey Kong.. and yeah, we had to swap and borrow games back then, until it is was a birthday or xmas. And everyone at school would forget to bring the games back. I don't have the apps, but for SNES.. mario kart 1.. and Street Fighter 2, everyone wanted to find an arcade with this game.. and then it came out on SNES, same with Killer Instinct. In the early days, without save files, we would have to re-start things a lot, so everyone was sort of a speed-runner, because they wanted to get through the early levels as quick as they could, and back to where they died..

Goldeneye is nearly impossible without the 6 button Nintendo 64 Controller (I think it’s back in stock now, but they also have some knock offs that review pretty well and are slightly less expensive plus the original N64 controller by Nintendo has a stick that will wear out overtime and become practically unusable and unfixable)

My first console was the N64, it came with Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing, and that was it for me. Games were super expensive back then, so best I got was renting games twice a month for 2 days. I remember getting Ocarina of Time and trying to get as far as possible everything, best I did was the Forest Temple (I was probably 8 at the time, and didn’t speak english) But the funniest bit was Goldeneye. It was a small, local rental shop, but there was this sense of community of not deleting the save on goldeneye so we could try to unlock all the times and cheats. I was pretty bad at the game, but I remember renting every now and then to play split screen coop, and checking if someone unlocked something new.

Claymates is my pick for a hidden gem. Its a bit like smartball but you don't stay a blue blob. Each powerup turns you into an animal type with special abilities. Getting two of the same powerup adds a bonus ranged attack. it also has a overworld with puzzles. I also think the music is memorable. Theres a warp in the first level. I think you jump over the first two flowers and get to the third or maybe its go to the first red flower. Than you spam jump until you warp.

Very cool idea and video. I had to pick more than one game for each system. NES: Nintendo World Cup (sadly not on the service) & Super Mario Bros. are propably the ones I played the most back in the days. On the NSO Emulator the one NES game I played extensively is StarTropics. GB: Never had a Game Boy. The only GB game I played extensively on my GBA was Pokemon Red which isn't on the service (yet). SNES: Donkey Kong Country - The one I played the most back in the day and still regularly play via NSO. Another one I need to name here is Super Punch Out. It was a hidden gem for me back then and still has a special place in my heart. GBA: Fire Emblem & Metroid Fusion - The first Fire Emblem released in the west made me a lifelong fan. I was especially impressed by the smooth batlle animations. Metroid Fusion was my first Metroid and is just an absolut classic. N64: Wave Race 64 & F-Zero X - To this day my 2 favourite racing games and in my personal top 5 games list. Sadly the emulation isn't perfect (Wave Race turbo start is basically impossible) and F-Zero is almost unplayable without the official N64 Controller.

LOZ and Super Mario 3 are the best NES games IMHO. After I graduated and left for the Navy in 1999, I was trying to recall what I missed about being at home as a civilian before I left... i made a point of playing LOZ on every 2-week Christmas leave for several years. I remember having girls waiting on me to quit playing, just laying on my bed! It was funny, but I had to beat these games. I've since sworn off of those distractions on my bed! Now, I just play Switch! I went through to many distractions...

If I had to narrow things down NES: Never owned one, probably too young! SNES: Donkey Kong Country for sure, my older brother also got this and I would sit and watch him play it. (he also had a gamegear the jammy thing). Played a lot of Street Fighter and Lylat wars on the SNES as well. N64: Definitely Zelda OoT, mind blowing experience for me. Got it on my 10th birthday! Gameboy: Again, Zelda for me as well, same as you. I replayed link's awakening countless times. Watching the vid made me think I should really indulge in the updated switch version. Also played endless amounts of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. GBA: Golden Sun was a big favourite for me. Might be wrong but feel like it was a game that not many people played. I bought it on a wim as I liked the box art and was not disappointed. Would be interested to know any favourites from GameCube, DS etc. (perhaps see what % of them have been remade for switch😆)

Fun concept for this video. My picks (and that's only two games because I've never owned a NES, GameBoy or GameBoy Advance) would have been rather predictable: Link to the Past for the SNES and Ocarina of Time for the N64, although Super Mario World for the SNES was a close second and on the N64 I would have put both Majora's Mask and Lylat Wars right behind Ocarina of Time. I actually never owned LttP, but managed to borrow it from a friend for a couple of weeks and played the hell out of it during that time, 100% it in the process. It was like a revelation for me, and made me a staunch Zelda fan for the rest of my life. And OoT only cemented that status (I must have 100% that game at least 5 times on the N64). However, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't get the love for Donkey Kong Country. I mean, I remember buying the game, being so excited about playing it (it looked so good!), and then I started playing it, loved the graphics, but the gameplay was meh, didn't feel like movement had any weight to it... and 2 hours later I was done. Completed the game. Might have missed a couple of KONG coins and a few hidden items and locations but that was it. I was so disappointed that a full price game (that I had spent so much time saving just to be able to buy it) had so little contents. Put me off the rest of the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES. Felt really cheated of my money. The exemplar of style over substance. It was the first time in my life I was disappointed by something I'd bought myself so it stung really hard. And to this day I still don't get what people liked in this game. Surely the graphics cannot hide the fact that the game had maybe a tenth of the contents of Super Mario World, which was a launch game for the console! I guess I expected more. So yeah, unpopular opinion maybe, but it's nearly 30 years later and I can still feel the disappointment of teenage me.

OK, OK, fine! I'll (finally) subscribe to the Expansion Pack, alright! 😉I have fond memories of playing the Metroid Series as a kid/teen/young adult, and my kids have grown watching me playing said series (Dread stresses the heck out of my son and Prime is my daughter's favorite. Both fell asleep on Other M, ha ha ha!). I've been looking for a way to legally play Fusion for years since my old GBA broke down. Oh, and nice video! Thanks, guys! It's always a pleasure to follow your channel.

I loved this video so much. So great to hear your memories. I used to work in Game as a teenager. Spent more of my youth selling games then playing them as my parents bought me a Barcode Battler instead of a fucking N64. Wankers. I did have a friend that I used to play games with,. We are still mates and I still remember his landline. Alien on the Mastersystem, then Golden Eye and Ocarina with the walkthrough were our gaming moments. My first console was really the Gamecube. I was a PC gamer as well as Dad always had the latest PC. Remember Gateway?? My earliest memories were playing the NES at my Nan's friend's house. The shooting ducks game and eying up her boiled sweets. That's not a euphemism for her fanny.

I want to love Super Metroid and i do but i never managed to finish the game because of Phantoon (i can't figure out how to avoid the projectiles) if i can figure out how to get past it, it might become one of my favourite games of all time but that boss breaks me)
