Our 3.0 TDI S Tronic Audi A5 gets a new Clutch Pack and Flywheel! - DARKSIDE DEVELOPMENTS

Since upgrading the turbo ( • Upgrading the Turbo on... ) on our second 3.0 TDI Audi A5 project the old clutches and flywheel had been giving us problems, occasionally slipping, meaning chasing power figures came to a halt!
After trying what we could in the software, we finally bit the bullet and fitted a new Genuine Clutch pack and LUK Flywheel.Here's how it went....

You should really try and avoid resting the weight of the gearbox on the sump as it can crush the sump and damage the mechatronics. Just saying.

@@DarksideDevelopments It is true that a good mechanic will always be better than a team of engineers who have precisely designed these elements, there are also aluminum screws whose use is limited. At Audi he strikes the screw with a cross to indicate that they have already been removed so that the next disassembly, the mechanic will changed them. But hey, a mechanic already knows all that.

@@DarksideDevelopments DSG are fragile and the fact of not respecting good practices, are very dangerous for the gearbox. Thus placing the gearbox directly on the casing can cause deformation of the casing and therefore create oil leaks.

I've also got a knock, but only when the engine is warm and can only be heard inside the car, swapped the dmf and clutch and its still knocking. Not sure what it is... Maybe a pulley?

mated my sTronic transmission to engine but I can't get the engine to turn to line up the bolts on the flywheel. Any ideas on what is happening? the flywheel spins freely but the engine will only turn 180

Hello, i have an A5 3.0 TDI 2011 and every time i stop at the light, the RPM goes from 600 to 800, to 400 and sometimes the engine just turning off. It does this every time, i ve been to so many mechanics but they can't see the issue. But trust me, i cannot drive it like that, it make me sell it. Can you tell me what this can be? Thanks

They've got their issues but we wouldn't say avoid them. Just make sure you keep on top of servicing them

Do you know how long (milage) these clutches generally lasts more or less under normal driving? I have searched high and low for an answer. Factory clutches

There are not any figures as every car is different. Differences in the driver, terrain, temperatures, load carried, tyre pressures all have a bearing on the life expectancy, so it's not a quantifiable figure.

Great video. I was expecting the bell-housing and starter motor to be full of rubber dust and iron filings. My dads Ford Mondeo diesel is on its 3rd starter motor due to the Dual Mass Flywheel disintegrating. Apparently you can fit a normal solid flywheel to prevent this, however, you then suffer from increased vibration.

Great video lads as always. Just in the middle of doing my chains as tensioners have failed. Clutch was slipping like crazy also. Ordered assembly from Audi. Quick question how much torque and hp can be run through the standard clutch?

This one did 500bhp and 650lbs/ft but was slipping a little. We dropped it down to 400bhp and 600lbs/ft and it was spot on

That is one big bitch ,knew they were on the big size but not that big ,now purrring like a kitten ,had a DMF explode on B7 Passat years ago all because the customer refused to get it repaired ,Ended up costing the idiot a few grand in the end as it punched a hole in the box 🤣🤣🤣🤣,great vlog 👍
