Our Average Day - July 3, 2018
Join us as we show a glimpse of what the average day in our house with Autism looks like! In an effort to show the challenges of living with Autism, we have decided to begin vlogging occasionally as a way to increase awareness.
Emma and a very cooperative Elli begin the day with some homework followed by Elli’s newly learned skill of unloading and reloading the dishwasher. Madicyn faces some troubles while completing her homework. In a very teenager fashion, she runs to her room and hides on her bed but uses great communication and coping skills to calm herself down before her behaviors escalated. When Elli begins getting frustrated because mom only allowed her to have one cookie, Emma lets her escape to her bedroom to cool off. Once her attitude dissipates, she shows us how she can make lunch with only verbal prompting. A silly Charlie shows us his dance moves, elliptical workout, and even softly sings part of The Lion King introduction for us. The day comes to an end with Ashley, Charlie, Andrea, and Elli splashing and giggling in the pool.
All in all, this was a very successful day for the kids. As shown, both Elli and Madicyn were able to escape to their bedrooms when they began getting frustrated. This type of cooperative day does not happen frequently, so when it finally does, we love to acknowledge the kid’s success and reward them with fun activities like swimming in the pool.
We hope you enjoyed this look at what a typical day in our home looks like! There are many more to come.
