I had never even heard of fowl pox until we saw strange things going on with our rooster and we started searching for answers online. This video captures how we treated him to make him more comfortable as well as the measures we took to keep the rest of the girls safe.

I’ve been researching a treatment for fowlpox & lots of success using Colgate toothpaste!!! It’s pretty amazing!

I put the teatree oil on mine. Worked great within 4 days almost gone. (But I also put ampicillin and vitamins in water) U can buy Fish antibiotics off eBay or amazon. Same thing. I even heard Colgate toothpaste as well!

I think these guys had the dry fowl pox. It never got into their throat or mouth. It largely just irritated their eyes due to the sores that came up

I'm dealing with this now. All 8 got it but only one ended up with it in her mouth and got a swollen eye. Toothpaste is working wonders in them. I'm ok with them all getting it at once because I don't want to do this again! Thank you for this video.

@@briannablithe if your willing, I just posted a pic of one of my hens and the full explanation of what's been going on (brushing over my ganders 2.5 month mystery illness) on my community post here on youtube. I did ad the pics of 1 hen, but I feel like I'm seeing more and more signs of dry pox. I think my gander may have had wet pox this past fall. He's pretty much recovered now. No more symptoms, but I didn't think he was going to make it some nights. It was heartbreaking. Now I worry about the rest of my flock.

You need to use nitrile gloves whever working with chickens especially if they are sick. I would use tea tree or toothpast on the pox spots. the blue kote is too messy probably could of use cotton swabs instead of the towel it could of gotten in their eyes. Also, if you rooster was worse than your hen you should of seperated the both of them. She probably wasn't that bad but got worse when you put them together.

The best thing you can do is let it run it course. I can tell you if your rooster has it all your hens have it

Thanks for the support 🥰 They are both doing great! This whole thing cleared up in about a week and hasn’t ever created such a problem again thank goodness. I used to occasionally see signs of it on other birds but I would spray them with the “blu-kote” immediately and it never was serious for them.

Mosquitoes is the main vector for fowl pox. Also rubbing alcohol will remove the bluekote from your skin 😊

Hi Hugsy, sorry I didn’t see this for so long. How are you chickens doing now?
@hugsyshens
@hugsyshens 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brianna, they are doing excellent now! I tried hydrogen peroxide and Vaseline as well, and they worked like a charm and they went away within a week to 2 weeks if you reapply often so maybe once every 2-3 days, you just dab on some hydrogen peroxide then then finish it with the Vaseline, so that is just another way in case anyone can’t get the things you used in their area as I couldn’t. Amazing tutorial though :)
