I like your arrangement and will try it for my next one whenever that is 😊 we still co sleep with our 11 mo and I got rid of the bed and got a wall to wall mattress. Gives all of us adequate space and no risk of a fall for the lil one

LOVE that cosleeper! What a space saver! I have a mini arms reach ready for baby #3 but your little one looks awesome! I also love the idea of your basket, I have a similar set up ready, I'll have to grab your suggestion for the changing pad- you're right mine are cold to lay baby on- especially when sleeping!

I can't recommend those little bamboo changing pads enough! I even have one in my diaper bag! I tried ones from another brand last time, and these ones are far superior.

Wow, I've never seen a dock-a-tot! We used a bedside cosleeper with my daughter, so she'd start the night in there but end up in our bed. Once she was about four months she was in our bed full time. She'll be almost three when Bub #2 comes along and we're trying to figure out our family bed setup. We'll probably have our oldest in a single bed sandwiched up against our bed. We've always loved having her in our bed, and she needs us to help her potty throughout the night so we haven't got any plans of moving her out 😊

Wow our set up is so similar. We do not have a docatot but we have the crib next to the bed as a side car. We removed the side and it is flush with our bed. So baby has his own space but still very close. I also have a bin like you for diaper changes. I also keep a water bottle and breast pads for me and now a soother. Love the simplicity. We have 4 kids in a two bedroom so our oldest three share a room and baby is with us. He has one drawer from my dresser for clothes.

If you have a pillow top on your bed that isn’t safe because it can indent causing the dock a Tot to indent.... just be very careful. I read that you can’t have those fluffy toppers when you bedshare

Hi Jessica! So my baby is five months old and we JUST started cosleeping because he just won’t sleep longer than an hour in his crib without waking up for comfort. If he’s in bed with us he sleep a very long time and even with naps if he’s in the crib or rocker he will nap 30 minutes, but in our bed he will nap 2-3 hours. My question is - if we start cosleeping now at five months old, how and when do you think he will go back to his crib? Better said when will you be transition the baby from bed share to her own crib? Im a new subscriber and loving your videos!
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Truthfully, all babies deal with that transition differently. It’s a toss up sometimes as a parent - do you make decisions you think will help them sleep better later down the road, or do you concentrate on the here and now and do what you gotta do to get everyone the most sleep in the present moment? It’s a hard balance to strike. Neither of my girls were great sleepers naturally in the beginning, so I went with what worked while they were still so small and fragile, and we made adjustments as they got older. Rowan still doesn’t always sleep through the night every night in her own bed, but I know we’ll get there. Kennedy was a horrible sleeper, and now she sleeps through everything, haha!

Also a ftm 🤍 This video made me so so sad, because it is not describing safe ways to bed-share 😭 Dr. James McKenna’s info can be found anywhere, and he teaches how to co-sleep safely! I am not at all the type to comment on random people’s posts and share my thoughts, so I hope this doesn’t come off arrogant or pushy!! I just saw your comment and wanted to pass on some other information to a fellow ftm 🥺

Ugh, it breaks my heart how many new moms are commenting that they will try this!! Unfortunately, this is not at all sids safe. Co-sleeping can make everyone’s life easier - but this is not the way to do it. For better info, Dr. James McKenna is an extremely well known advocate for bed sharing, and he lays out how to do that safely. I hope that helps someone 🤍

Love this! For diaper changes and nursing, do you have to turn your light on to see? How do you keep it from being too bright?
@lizziesophiaTV

When I was breastfeeding my daughter I didn't need a light, but I always did for nappy changes. We just bought a really low watt light bulb from the hardware store and put it in the lamp. They're awful if you try to read with them, but perfect for middle of the night wake ups. Sometimes you can even find them in a red or orange tint, which is good for night time
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 7 жыл бұрын
We keep a lamp with a red light bulb on in our room at night. Our brains don't process red light as day light the way they do white lights, so it works perfectly. We can see well enough for diaper changes and nursing sessions, but I have no problem falling back to sleep.

how long do you think that kind of co-sleeper will last for a baby?
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 7 жыл бұрын
+British Mitchell It honestly depends on the baby. I'd say 8-9 months is average. My daughter is almost 8 months, and we still use it.
@AbiBloomUK
@AbiBloomUK 2 жыл бұрын
I’m finding co sleeping so confusing! In the UK we’ve been told they must sleep separately or if you co sleep you must not use a duvet or any loose items. We’re also advised Dockatot’s are very dangerous to leave baby in unsupervised. We have one and haven’t managed to use it properly yet as Magnus doesn’t sleep anywhere but on me. However when I nurse on my side I’ve managed to keep him sleeping that way. My husband and I literally stay up and watch him sleep as the other one sleeps. The annoying thing is he sleeps a lot but we still don’t as one of us is supervising 😭😭

I'm doing some research on co-sleeping. I don't have children yet but I want to be informed beforehand. This seems one of the toughest decisions to be made though. There is a lot of contradictory information out there. But I think safety should be most important and I tend to want to listen to the regulations that say the only safe options for sleep are a crib or a bassinet or a playyard. I'm sure the dockatot is great for short naps and when you need to put your baby somewhere safe when you're doing something during the day. But it hasn't got the same safety regulations as a normal crib. The 'breathability' is a marketing term and not an official safety regulation. There shouldn't be anything nearby the child's face because it can potentially create a little air pocket for baby to rebreathe air. That's why the swaddling can also be dangerous, it doesn't matter if the material is 'breathable'. Maybe try breathing in and out with a piece of the supposedly 'breathable' material covered over your mouth/nose yourself. You will probably experience that you're still rebreathing air. Let alone a small infant who is in danger of oxygen deficiency much sooner. I do however understand the want and benefits of having your baby close-by. Having the baby in your room on a separate surface (a crib/bassinet) can actually lower the risk of SIDS by as much as 50 percent. And this is still a form of co-sleeping so I definitely think this is a wonderful solution. And it will probably give me better sleep without any worries. I understand that some parents will still want to co-sleep with the baby in the same bed. If you must do it, I would use a 'co-sleeper' that attaches to your bed. This way the baby can sleep on it's own surface. But there will be quite a bit of distance so it doesn't differ that much from putting your baby in a crib I guess.
@Larissatheg
@Larissatheg 5 жыл бұрын
Actually Cosleeping can be one of the most beneficial and safe ways for your baby to sleep. Of course there are many types of cosleep you have arms reach cosleeping where the baby is within arms reach but not sleeping on the same surface and then there is bedsharing. The research done by Dr James McKenna (and others) at Notre Dame U has actually proven that in most cases it is advisable to do some form of cosleeping. I would really recommend reading through the guidelines and the FAQ of their website cosleeping.nd.edu They also have a video of Dr Mckenna explaining the benefits and myths of cosleeping. However, as you said, sleeping in a Dock a tot is not ideal, as the baby can find herself against the sides of the dock-a-tot and may suffer respiratory issues. The recommended guidelines are: baby on back, nothing around; no pillows, no stuffed animals, no blankets.
@Lily_and_River
@Lily_and_River 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the complementary information on this topic! I did say that I understand the benefits aswell and that I still want to do a safe form of co-sleeping. ;) It's not that I am against co-sleeping but I notice a lot of parents on the internet seem to just do what they like without questioning if it's safe or without following guide-lines. On top of that they promote it on YT without mentioning these safety guide-lines and they promote products for (co-)sleeping that don't meet safety standards aswell.
@Larissatheg
@Larissatheg 5 жыл бұрын
AWeerheim You're basically describing everyone anywhere. ;) People will post an article or make a video, or a blog post on whatever they like without proper research. We cannot control what everyone is saying, that's why we should always fact check and do further research. And especially always question what the media or the commonly accepted ways of living are. People just accept anything if it's being done by a lot of people or if it's been done for a long time. Cribs are actually the worst option for a baby, and also the least natural. As are all those other baby gadgets that the billion-dollar baby industry is pushing into poor unsuspecting well-meaning new parents' hands. Anyway, when it comes to parenting, people are still entitled to do it their way and everyone should state that whatever they're chosing to do is personal and by no means should everyone copy them blindly.
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you both for your commentary. Rest assured, I always do research before making decisions, as I feel everyone should. Our research may bring us to different conclusions, and we all choose different things for our family.

Sabbu Fuchhee I didn’t start noticing the baby I used to nanny roll on her tummy until about 6 months. It takes a while. Starting at six months or so, I’d put her down to sleep on her back in her crib and I’d sneak a peek and she’d have rolled onto her stomach. Hahaha. But yes that isn’t till they get older
