Our Community: Oakville, Ontario

To bad, Oakville is only for people who have full bank account. Crimes , people taking their lives , are no where to be found in the news. I have been trying to find a doctor in Oakville for past 4 years. I was refused by about 10 doctors do to me medication. I can't find a social workers that would be able to help. Every time I am trying to reach out for help, I get children aid, that doesn't do anything but threatening to take my child away, do to pain and health problems that can be Solved by proper medication. Ever since pain clinic kicked me out, after giving me injection, after which I had a bad reaction, my pain meds were taken away. The doctors put me on those meds so I can take care of my child. I am on the edge to loose everything, I can't take my child for a walk. Our lives are lived in fear every single day. To bad no one told me, that Oakville is a town that disrespects single moms , people with disabilities, there are simply no services for families like us.

Despite being known as an affluent community, 14.4 per cent of Oakvillians live in poverty and the problem is only getting worse.Though that number is lower than the provincial and national averages of 22.2 per cent and 21.5 per cent, respectively, the overall poverty rate has risen 22 per cent in Oakville in the last decade. This indicates that more than 26,000 people in Oakville live in poverty.This was one of many key findings in the Oakville Community Foundation’s (OCF) Vital Signs report for 2011, presented Tuesday morning at Sheridan College.
