You absolutely need some kind of drain at the bottom of the pipe. Since fog is heavier than the surrounding air, so some fog fluid will be left in the pipe after each eruption, which will collect at the bottom and finally fill it, which will destroy the machine.
@arnandegans2 ай бұрын
Careful with the fog - It's vaporized ammonia or something right? It'll leave a fatty/slick layer on everything it touches. So covering the whole room with it may not be preferable.

Ventilation is indeed important. You should probably have a fan system installed above the volcano if you're going to give it a semi-permanent location.

for sure!
@hereis_Tiff2 ай бұрын
@@Brick_CraftsI'd go as far as saying it's required. In The Netherlands for example, ventilation is required by law, either mechanically or naturally through open windows or open vents above a window

Quick tip from an ex stage designer/tech dir. Cold fog sinks, so if you run the fog machine through ice*, it'll sink faster and roll through the top of the moc. Shouldn't prevent the "eruption" from spewing upward. Still need vents, but this method can result in a cool rolling fog effect, and keep the lingering fog to the ground if that's where the vents are. *throwing ice in a tub repeatedly is not ideal for your use, that's the cheap stage way to do it for one off bursts. I believe they make machines that you can use, essentially like a fridge for the fog chamber
@Nikolaos342 ай бұрын
Was going to mention this myself, I use a chiller box for Halloween and it works pretty well for a couple hours. I use a flexible dryer duct running through a tote filled with ice. For this situation, probably needs more optimized heat transfer.
@Skraboing6492 ай бұрын
Can I ask you, does this fog leave any kind of oily residue etc? Am concerned for their amazing city getting covered in gunk over time...? Thanks!
@JQourydxyz2 ай бұрын
Maybe a beautiful idea for the looks, but not so realistic as volcanoes are hot, so the smoke rises up.
@DroneConflict2 ай бұрын
@Skraboing649 in my experience, generally no, save for the area right outside of the spout. There is some variety in fog fluids, so that could perhaps cause residue, but also to be frank usually it was foggers being used much more infrequently and not necessarily in the same place so perhaps there would be build up in this use case
@Nikolaos342 ай бұрын
@@Skraboing649 Pretty sure fog machines use a glycerin based mix to produce the fog, very similar to a vape pen. It's definitely going to leave behind something, but how much probably depends on the quality of the juice and quality of the burn.
@LarryDarkMite22 ай бұрын
I've worked with fog machines for decades. Most fog machines will leave a nasty residue. Consider getting a MDG atmosphere hazer. Don't run it on full. It uses so little fluid that there's virtually no residue. It's the cleanest there is fog there is!

The MDG will cost 4000USD and will not have the same effect lol

Suggestion for realism and "story telling": Add a relatively new but inactive (cold) lava path to the volcano. Using black bricks from the top of the crater down to the sea. Maybe add some burned down vegetation (ash grey and coal black) left and right from the cooled down lava.

You should consider installing an extractor fan (maybe a DIY with some PC fans might work) to remove the smoke so it doesn't get too foggy inside. Some of the visitors could be affected by the smoke, such as asthmatic patients.
@maltehauge2 ай бұрын
Regarding the smoke machine: If it's supposed to run cycles for days, weeks or even months, buying a higher quality machine will indeed help you! Cheep machines die and their fluids makes every surface real nasty over time. On top of that remember to buy a "quick fog" fluid or alike - a fluid that's quickly dissipating. Then you can have more bursts, without the room beeing completely fogged. Just buy a 5+ liter tank and just leave it by side side of the fog machine, with an extended hose, so you don't have to bother with refilling all the time. Last note will be, that many fog machines do require a clean once in a while. Finding a machine with automatic cleaning after beeing left in standby for a while will save you a lot of trouble over time. Keep up the good work!

the fog should start well before the lava. Volcano will usually be smoking before you see lava. it also builds the anticipation for the lava and adds another layer to make things look cool with the light. As I saw in another post… cooling it down will help it sink. Ideally you could run two pipes. one that gets cool so that some fog sinks and some that still rises like a normal volcano
@OctozenX2 ай бұрын
2:10 I feel like the LEDs should be a little dimmer, the brightness makes it a little difficult to see the movement of the light due to diffusion, you also can’t see the difference colours in the lava quite as well, and also, while lava does glow, it’s not as bright as people think it is. Other than that though, looks amazing

An idea I'd love to see developed is a new underground layer for City MOC similar to the cave in the old Lego Castle MOC. I think it would be interesting to have a whole layer below table involving underground constructions, such as treasure caves, a subway system, abandoned sections, an ocean floor with animals and plants, and underwater exploration. And there, you could create a narrative connection with the pirate MOC, where they discover an artifact or character from the pirate scene.

Damn that's neat! Other uses for the fog machine to consider: An industrial sector with smokestacks, fire department rushing out for a currently ongoing fire, an idling steam locomotive (because how on earth would you hook up a smoke machine to a moving one lol). Don't know how much of that you can do with a single smoke machine, would probably have to device some complicated mechanism to reroute the smoke to different sections, at regular intervals if you want to automate the entire thing, so not all the smoky bits start billowing out white fog all at once simultaneously of course.

Things you could consider - Get Quick Dissipating Smoke Fluid to avoid getting the room filled - Replace the box where the smoke is blown into by a small tabletop freezer. This will cool the smoke, and will make it heavy so it flows super realistic. Don't get started with (dry) ice, that's a hassle. - Be prepared for the glycerin layer that will form on all your LEGO. It won't be much in the beginning, but the oil fill definitely build up over the months. Use fluid thats low in glycerin (high in water).

That volcano looks amazing but i think it should have so sort of ventilation above it because the fog/smoke liquid is made of distilled water and a glycol-based solution, so filling a room with it could cause damp which causes other problems related to damp.

This looks so cool, but over time that fog fluid will leave a sticky residue on all those bricks, even if used sparingly it will require a lot of cleaning/maintenance. I used to work in a small music venue where we had a fogger under the stage, it was rarely used and despite this it still made a mess and caused many electrical problems. That being said, this was over ten years ago so maybe the fog machine technology has improved since then?

This is one of those builds where the finished product completely blows the concept out of the water! Some people have mentioned, but it bears repeating, that fog machines can leave a really nasty residue. Strong ventilation can help, but a heavy-duty water vapor diffuser could do the trick with some engineering.
