This is a sad episode as our daughter leaves us after 6 years living aboard. She wanted to move back to England to attend college and sit her exams and also the call of more permanent friends and more space was beckoning her. Despite feeling sad, we are happy for her and all the exciting things to come and now on the online world , we can be in touch pretty much everyday.

What a pleasure to watch Rowan grow from a shy little girl to a beautiful young lady. I think you guys are extraordinary for giving your kids so many fantastic experiences and being there with them the whole time!

It’s funny because I feel like she was shy as a very young girl then quite outgoing around age 11 when we first got aboard, then she kind of wanted to be out of the picture and now she is much more outgoing again ! She looks back fondly on her time on the boat … must have forgotten all the hard times ;) Irenka

Rowan may find college a little dull, and may go a bit stir crazy. It is not as exciting as life on the seas, thats for sure. I wish her the best. It will be a big change of pace. I must say she is brave and a driven person. God bless

I’ve watched your adventures from the start, and it has been great. The young lady has done so well, but in some of the more recent videos, I think you could see that Rowen was dreaming, of “ what might have been “ it’s only natural. You’ve given her a great start, and I’m sure she’ll go to do great things, just like yourselves. Glad Grandpa was company for her, on the way home. Good luck guys.

Yes she was definitely dreaming of different things and still does … I suppose it is important to always have dreams and ideas and ambitions…. Things to aim for in life !

Every kid eventually spreads their wings and fly away (to borrow words from the iconic Queen song). I think the most surprising thing is how much the kids have grown between the posted videos your more recent Instagram content. Time flies!

It is probably much harder to develop lasting friendships with people your own age living on a boat as what can be developed in a more traditional schooling experience. Also, it is getting close to a time when your daughter may find that someone special and she deserves the opportunity to explore those experiences as well.

Hi Mothership family, Roman has grown into a wonderful young lady. Brighton Lifeboat has just taken part into the 200 year celebrations with Roger reading the RNLI pledge in Westminster Abbey. Lots of love to you all. Malcolm

Stunningly beautiful video and filming! Thank you for sharing. I remember the pain like it was yesterday as our 3 kids ventured off to find their way and independence. Soon she will be back in a new way; short visits, bringing new friends (partners?!!!), new thoughts, ideas and knowledge. You adapt but are never the same. You have made the most of every moment with your children and cherished them all. Find solace in that. You know the adage: "hold them close, then let them go" but oh so heartbreaking and a piece of you goes with them forever. I assure you it gets easier but very different as they "become". Sail on Mothership! You are an amazing crew!

As hard as it is, far better that you've raised her to be a person that can be independent and successful on her own. Which is I think what we all want as parents. But since children don't come with any sort of instruction manual or even labels on the knobs and dials, and are each unique, we all just do the best we can hoping we are doing it right. My son is 13, and I know in the blink of an eye he will be heading off to college and a life of his own. Which will be the hardest thing ever, but also exactly what we want for him. In the mean time we torture him by claiming we will follow him to college so we can still be near him. 😀

Yep , we can all only do our best and let them find their own way eventually . One gree as t thing about the distance is that Rowan always confides in us ( we think and hope ) and we can avoid a lot of unecessary rows . 🤞

Great music selection….it’s almost magical the way technology can keep us in touch with our loved ones today….imagine just 10 or 15 years ago it would have been so much harder. I’ll save you from all the platitudes of stretching wings and leaving nests….you raised an intelligent, adventurous young lady and this is where her adventure branches off from yours - You just have to trust that you have done well preparing her for this and she will do wonderful things along her path.

Long time watcher of your channel from the very beginning. Rowan has grown into a beautiful, smart and independent young woman who will use all of her experiences on MS to achieve all her goals. While sad, you and she will look back at your travels as the best gift you could have given her - self reliance and independence.

After a few months she said it really hit her how special her life was aboard Mothership , so you are right. I am so glad she looks back with joy and not regret, that would have been awful .
