I was going for a new Luxe or Riverstone. I was in the New Horizons Magestic rear kitchen at the Tampa RV show this year and was impressed! The Owner Cole was on point with all of my questions. Luxe is a great unit, service and no dealer network is a concern. Riverstone would not build what I want. After the New Horizons rear kitchen unit stole the show in 5th wheels, I am very happy to see Riverstone and DRV copied that floor plan and white cabinets. I can not afford a New Horozons and I have always liked DRV. I think I will,order a DRV 44 Houston next year from Rolling Retreats. I am impressed with the lady’s knowledge and expertise. I have looked a DRV by other dealers and she impressed me. I like the floor plan and the new decor. I also like the 15 inch frame and standard Moryde Independent suspension. I can also get an 8k diesel genset in the DRV. Luxe would not do that or the 220V dryer. Riverstone is a great unit for the money. 2 axles on a 42 ft. Unit has me a little concerned, especially with having to get the moryde IS as an option. DRV it is for me. I will be pulling it with my 2018 F-450 pickup.

Hi Karl. We've been in the 20s...but not by choice! We try and follow 70 degrees as much as we can. I can only count about 4 manufacturers that I would trust in the winter. The key is skirting around the bottom to hold the heat in. Good luck in your search.

We've worked hard all our life and tried to be smart with our money. This is our home, so we don't have the "normal" expenses that a sticks-and-bricks has. We've lived on a pretty strict budget most of our married life and now we're able to reap the rewards....we're very blessed.

For a full-timer, what is the advantage of the fifth wheel over a class A? You mentioned that Class A plus trailer want as good of a fit. I'm super curious why 😁

Hi Ryan. Everyone is different, but we feel the 5th wheel is a better fit for us. We like the fact that we can disconnect the coach and take the truck in for service, allowing us to still live in the coach. We also like the floor plan of the 5th wheel more than a Class A - to us it just seems more like a home. We travel in the west quite a bit and the mountains we travel across aren't much of a problem in our truck with 505 HP. If we hauled a stacker trailer behind a Class A we'd have to have at least 500 HP to carry the weight and a new Class A with that much HP is out of our budget... which brings us to the fact that the depreciation on a Class A is much more than a 5th wheel. Everyone has their opinions....and we feel a 5th wheel is a better choice for us.

I have a question... being so long even without the double tow, aren't you to long for state and federal parks? I'm sorry but just started looking at my options...ty! 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

It all depends on the park. As an example, we wouldn't fit in Madison campground in Yesllowstone, as it has a maximum size restriction of 30 ft. We would fit in some spaces at Canyon in YNP as there aren't any size restrictions. When we visit YNP we will usually stay outside the park and drive in on a daily basis, which is what we do in a lot of places. We have stayed at a National Forest campground just outside the west gate of YNP as well. We're currently in Michigan and we've driven through a number of Michigan state parks and we would fit just fine in a number of them. When we look for stopping places we will usually read the reviews, look at the google earth view and sometimes call the location to ask questions.

Good luck We had a mobile d build 2 years ago and even watched them at the factory as it was being build. Let me tell you we had nothing but issues,the quality is not what it used to be and our dealer would not stand behind us period so we wish you all the best, we got rid of it after a year and went back to a Class A . Thanks RV Home. We've had a few glitches with our current coach, but nothing that couldn't happen with any RV over time. The dealer we purchased from originally wasn't very responsive either, but we've found Alicia and Slade to be top notch and really try to get things right. May I ask why you opted out of the washer and dryer? Have you had issues with having one in the past?

We opted out of the w/d for a couple of reasons. To begin with, we didn't want the added weight that the w/d would have come with. We also like to boondock quite a bit, and water is a commodity while boondocking, so we didn't see us using it much. We use the area where the w/d would go as storage. We take care of laundry about every three weeks and we like to be able to use 3 or 4 machines at once and be in and out in under 2 hours.

Hi Jim and Kelley! I wanted to let you know in case you are still in Michigan that our friends dad he left her a bed and breakfast. That’s where it’s at but I know you have place to stay. Also I wanted to have you check out if you want to go there is Mackinaw Island. That is a great place to hop in a boat and visit while you are there. You can see a nice big hotel from the movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reese. It’s called the Grande Hotel. They have home made fudge up there and what you call pasties they are like a pie but with meat and all kinds of stuff. They are good. Have fun and a great time there and great weekend. Sherri Weber

Can I ask why u chose drv over luxe? I looked at both and found the luxe appeared to be better constructed?

Hi Rael....in our opinion, we liked the hung wall construction in the DRV better than the wall construction in the Luxe. Interior comfort was another factor in our choice - the Luxe seemed cramped to us both in the bedroom as well as the living area. We also had issues with Luxe responding back to us with questions we had. We felt if they weren't responsive now, what would happen if we had an issue after the sale.

I’m VERY close to being able to join your village. I purchased my HDT last week and I’m so very excited. (I’m the one who was surprised to find out I could buy an HDT for about the same price as a one ton duelly). I’m currently looking at LUXE for my 5th wheel but haven’t written off DRV as they’ll be the next one I call to see what they can offer. I’m going slow to make sure I get as close to what I want as possible. I’ll be part time for the next 2 years and will then retire and go full time. It’s just me, by myself, so your village will be a big help to this single lady. Haha! When you do your first rally I will be there! Thanks for the excellent advise on the HDT. I’m thrilled!!!

Thanks Bob. We're really excited! Spacecraft would be a great fit for our tractor, but it was one of those that was outside of our budget. They build a beautiful coach and we've been invited to visit their facility and video their production, so we'll probably visit them in the future. Thanks for coming along and have a great weekend!

Can you explain why you didn’t go with the luxe 48fb or the 44fb? I’m also in the mix of choosing a toy hauler and am stuck between drv lx455 and the luxe 48fb. Would love to hear your opinion.

Hi Hunter. They're both nice coaches, but we felt a little cramped in the Luxe. The bedroom seemed small in the Luxe and we're not big fans of the L-couch. We like the "hung wall" construction in the DRV vs the laminated wall. Those are our choices....and everyone is different. We also have had great success with Alicia and Slade at Rolling Retreats. They really try and make sure their customers are satisfied and are a great resource if something goes wrong. Slade has a PDI list that he goes through before the customer is even notified that their coach is ready. DRV is all they sell, so they've seen it all. Hope that helps and you find what you're looking for.

Lol you'll be broke quick with a rig like that. Every thing on a semi is expensive, your at 10 tires just for the semi. I would buy a bus and tow the car.

Well Fred....everyone has an opinion! I will tell you that in over 4 years of RVing with our HDT we have spend much less for maintenance than we did with our previous 1-ton duallys. We considered a Class A, but the 5th wheel suits our needs so much better. Have a great week.
