Let us know your thoughts on keeping an internal window! 😊 See you next week 👋🏻❤️

I still think you need a window in that bathroom...just a small one over the toilet to let some natural light in...
@Holly17093 сағат бұрын
I think no window in utility. We don’t have one and it’s means another wall of units for storage
@karensalter15603 сағат бұрын
I like the ideal of a slit window. Shame you can't put a window in the end wall where the cooker is currently x

I think its an great idea for utility room, however for kitchen/dining area it would look kinda wierd/offputting so i would have to vote for removing the window
@JakirMennacer2 сағат бұрын
I vote not to remove the window

If it was me, I would block up the utility window and put one in on the other external wall at the end. Great work guys
@kimwood159Сағат бұрын
100% agree. If you are not allowed an opening clear window you could go for a fixed frosted window. Or a frosted door for access to a washing line. You could also use utility room as a boot room so you can clean footwear in utility/boot-room rather than going through new kitchen extension.

You guys are doing amazing and here is a helpful tip from a tradesman. You thought you’d made a mistake with the base plate to your stud wall by not leaving out for the doorway but you actually didn’t, this is exactly how it should be done 🤩 your base plate goes down in one full length in order to keep your wall in a straight line, once the timber studding is complete and ready for plaster boarding, you can then cut the base plate to except ready for the new door lining to be installed. 🙌🙌🙌😆👍

If money is no issue I would brick up the window & put a window on the side wall where the oven currently is (or you could just put an exterior door there instead) which will give you some natural light & as it is a utility room access to fresh air is never a bad thing.
@eIIioni2 сағат бұрын
An inside window between two rooms doesn't bring that much light and it might look a bit awkward. If possible and doesn't cost/ take too much time I think you should move the window to the external wall instead. That way you'll get more natural light and you can actually use the window.
@lindakleiner5734Сағат бұрын
Block the window up you’ve got a small window on the outside wall make that larger or place a door to the outside with a glass panel in it. You’re doing a wonderful job.❤

Good morning Nicky & Harri, another great video! I firstly want to say that I have so much admiration for the two of you. I love that your doing the majority of the work yourself & your just up for giving anything a go, that takes some balls! 😂 Your last house looked so beautiful when you finished it, so I can’t wait to see the end result of this one. I personally think we need to see Nicky the bricky at work again! so I would personally brick the window up which would give you more wall space for cupboards or shelves. Re; the garden I think a tranquil area would be perfect. I would have a pergola it would be lovely have a look at Whitestores outdoor living website the white metal one will give you an idea of what I have in mind & maybe give you some inspiration. Lastly a water feature would be a must for me! With all that space you could have a beautiful garden stream, which I’d really love to have or something different but you get the gist. It would be somewhere to relax & reflect away from the busy world we live in. Have a great week & I look forward to seeing what you’ve been up to next Sunday. xx

Make the window smaller…. Garden zone each area… plan for the future, think what would others want if you sell it. Kid zone flat area for basketball hoop…. Play center trampoline etc … raised vegetable garden. Fire pit sitting area
@NickyandHarri2 сағат бұрын
Awesome ideas Leanne, we’re thinking of doing exactly that- making zones of flat areas for playing/hosting! A fire pit sounds very cool 🔥

When it comes to building stud walls with a door entrance, the way you did it first was OK. It is easier to put the bottom plate in one strip , build your stud wall (obviously leaving the required space for your doorway) and then trim away the bottom timber in the doorway. This assures your wall is straight

Block it up and put in a window on the external wall. I know there will be a view of a fence, but it will not only help with ventilation, but it will add natural light.

Put a window on the outside wall or even a door so you can take laundry outside to hang in summer. Also why the narrow gap on side of the basin vanity unit? Going to be hard to clean all the cobwebs out in the future.
@dominicturner17262 сағат бұрын
I think definitely keep some kind of window, difficult to visualise the height without the extension but natural light is the winner! Also (I'm sure your electrician will know) before you finish the bathroom boxing, make sure you take an earth bond to the metallic water supply 👌

Guys, quick tip, to speed up your drying out of the new plasterwork use a dehumidifier and a fan, heaters are a lot slower, we've been using this combo and it dries out freshly skimmed walls in less than 24hrs with the doors and windows closed.

I would have put the entry door more central to the space, so you can utilise the wall space on each side, and place a new window opposite where the oven is, and block up the the window entirely
@alexwood5026Сағат бұрын
Hey, make sure to future proof the rear garden by running an armoured cable down there for maybe some down lights on the sleepers where it steps down and and other areas you’d like garden lights plugged in or outdoor sockets. Also I’d recommend putting a wifi extension maybe at the end of the new dining room plugged in to help with wifi coverage in the garden :)

With the utility, have you got space on the side of the house to put a door? If you put an external door I think it would add so much. You'll have somewhere to put muddy boots after walking. Dogs to wash down after the walks etc.

For the utility window, if you can, leave a narrow long horizontal picture window high up - if it is above your proposed new roofline. Light and ventilation in a utility is good
@PJS-uu9xuСағат бұрын
Utility Gate…. I would keep a window…… but not in a regulation shape like the current one. Go high….. long and narrow maybe only 300 deep in Acid Etched. You’ll be surprised about how much light it’ll let in but just as importantly it won’t detract from your contemporary new kitchen layout. Oak frame it ( fake it ) 😉 Just my two cents. That garden is a bit of a monster! Your plan for terrace / patio and then lawn with retaining wall all sounds good. I’m not a huge fan of gravelled / stone areas but just purely for maintenance might be worth considering a section. If garden office / summer house / garden store are off budget at moment; Easily get a veg patch…. Probably reuse the greenhouse….. plant fruit trees? Depends if you guys are into the “good life”. Another good week 👍
@no4h1453Сағат бұрын
I would block up the window and put one either over the existing one on top of the extension roof, if this is possible, or put a new one the other external wall. You will have much more natural light and also it will help with the ventilation. Without any external windows, you might have to put an extraction fan to air the room later on.

Personally I'd try to avoid the timber sleep retaining wall in the garden, they do t last long term and you need to consider the amount of pressure it's holding back. Look at gabion baskets or interlocking blocks.

im keep window ,when i renovated my house i did first fix intruder alarm cable and first fix plumbing at same time after ripping everything out to save time and to save money i used a 25 yard skip to take every bit of the rubbish from the renovation inside the house for the garden renovation and drive i hired a 5 ton digger and had a grab to take waste away i would suggest gabion walls as would look nice and natural as thats what i did for my garden

Its all looking great so far, well done! For the garden id highly recommend an outdoor covered space for both summer and winter use. Shaded when warm weather and can be heated with outdoor heaters when cold but oh so cosy. Just a few poles and a roof so pretty affordable too. What do you think? p.s We did exactly what you are doing with our old house, 84m2 increased to 230m2( with roof terrace)😊 Good luck!

Can’t you put a small window on the other outside wall in the utility? If it overlooks neighbours you can always use obscured glass if you need to.
@KT_37Сағат бұрын
I studied architecture in college and I see two issues you and any other future homeowners are going to hate in the long term with the current layout. Don't make it a step down kitchen. It will be a regret when you are done plus an issue for any parent with small children needing to figure out a gate to prevent falls. Instead raise the extension up to match the current level of the house. You are already talking putting in a retaining wall and building up the yard for the patio off the kitchen. I would just plan to raise that up there or have it step down out of the kitchen onto the patio if raising the patio up to the kitchen level is too much. Other item is you come in the front door go down a hallway on the right and then turn left to go around a wall to go down another hallway on the left. to get to the new kitchen It is better to avoid this and have a straight shot to the back of the house for easier traffic flow but also avoid a nightmare of turns trying to move future furniture through that maze that will also have a staircase. Seriously it is going to sound like Ross in Friends, "Pivot, pivot." My advise is open the front door leave a good space to stand and take off a coat aka the new entryway. Then the stairs will go straight up the bedroom wall on the right side. The front bedroom door can easily be moved to accomodate the stairs even potentially putting the door off the new front entry. Now remove the wall blocking the new hallway to the kitchen. This is going to dramatically open up the home and create a small straight back hallway off the back of the living room to the new kitchen. Light can pour straight through the home plus allow the living room to now go all the way across to the new staircase thus making the living room a little larger as well. I hope my ideas help
