Media reflects society, so it isn't much of surprise to see games allowing the player to take ownership and command the business in order to prosper through the strength of their own ideas. The vast majority of us are at best working pointless mid-management positions but more realistically have no say or stakes in the company at all. It's the new empowerment fantasy. It's no coincidence that alongside the rise of simulation games is the increase in games with some level of remodeling and design, with some of the lowest homeownership rates for Americans under 40 in the last two decades. We're all more likely to be renters (or homeless), so what greater joy is there than determining your wall colours and whether or not you're using a nail or a command strip to hang your wall art? And of course, the rise of one of the most profitable PC game series of all times is the ultimate simulation game: The Sims. Where work, design, and mundane life intersect spectacularly. Because if your whole life sucks, escapism is inevitable~ ....Also, if a sim game allows you to name your eventual hires, you can name them after your coworkers and send them to clean the toilets when they're pissing you off irl. I'm just saying, that's impactful conflict mitigation right there.

And it was made by Gen Urobuchi, who also wrote the scripts for Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Kamen Rider Gaim, and other works. One of his standard MOs is to take a light-hearted concept like magical girls (Madoka) or fruit samurai (Gaim)... and make it f*cking grim and twisted. Addendum: I've also seen others in the comments suggest the 'Resurrection' section of the forever unfinished Phoenix manga. After looking into it... yeah, turns out that Arin wasn't misremembering and that's what he was referring to. Still, it's a neat concept that isn't played around with enough. Some tips: Wait for 3 laundry baskets to appear before doing any, then do them all at once. It’s best to start your last baskets of laundry at 18:00 (3 min wash, 3 mins drying) Empty your hoppers after 23:00 only (unless they’re full) I’m not sure what PC controls are but you can play the cabinets I think by pressing “E”. Each cabinet has Goals, complete as many as you can, the cabinet will earn more $$$ money as a result. (Use to buy more cabinets) You have “To do” tasks on your PDA, complete them for £££, this currency is used for permanent upgrades such as sprinting from the PC in your office ( I recommend saving for the Assistant Assistant manager to auto empty out hoppers, this will save A LOT of time when you have a full Arcade). Trash spawns at the start of the work day, clean first while you wait for 3 laundry baskets to appear.

The people pixelating when you walk past is both an interesting way for the game developers to side-step having to animate NPCs and handle movement and behavior for them and ALSO kind of a fun way to show how people blend into the background when you work a job where you see a ton of strangers that you barely interact with day to day.
@dadrester2 жыл бұрын
My dudes... Thanks for playing. Each game has a how to play section in the "Arcade Management" section of the PDA. To start a game just press space or E and it'll take you into the game. @@ANameToGoBy Besides air hockey, I have about 15 arcade cabinets, and the arcade seems to be about the size of the laundromat (minus the bathroom); however, there are apparently 35 arcade games to unlock. As to longevity, one thing that helps is that when you play a cabinet, it becomes more popular and generates more revenue (this helps with buying more cabinets). Another thing that helps longevity is that people will challenge you to beat their high scores on certain cabinets. At the point I am right now, I rarely do any of the laundry stuff. There was a funny time that a guy and his girlfriend bought chips from the snack machine but they got stuck. The buff boyfriend guy tried hard to movie the machine but couldn't get it to drop. I at the time was not a very strong looking guy. I placed my hand on the top of the machine and pushed it up and let it drop (not to hard) letting the chips drop loose. Imagine your dad walking in on you playing this game and watching you do laundry, pick up trash and see you play a mini-game of you throwing it in the dumpster. And he remembers you pissing and moaning about you doing chores around the house.

I started watching the grumps a long time ago. I met my fiance and we loved watching them together. Really bonded over episodes. Binge watched them constantly. I'll say it hurts to come back and watch them now alone. But the memories and the laughs keep me going 😔 stay strong everyone

I think these are appealing because we like the feeling of getting paid cash quickly and often, for doing something actually feasible. We get dopamine from that $$$ and It makes our real life mundane chores feel valuable

idk where the intro guy lives or why he fridges his cereal but my aunt lived in florida for like forty years and to this day keeps like unopened boxes of mashed potatoes in the fridge to, quote, "keep them away from the roaches" in a state where i have never once seen a roach (outside of a zoo enclosure) i cannot fathom where she thinks theyre going to appear from
@James_Amarant2 жыл бұрын
I swear Arin really needs to start doing like 5 to 10 minutes prep work to figure out the controls and what you're supposed to do in a game before they start the episode because so often it feels like the majority of an episode is spent just working out how to play the game, sometimes he doesn't even figure it out before he stops playing, it's probably also why people always claim arin is bad at video games because his approach seem to be "I'll figure the game out on the air, while I have split focus"
@SammichFella2 жыл бұрын
The cereal in the fridge is a sign he’s tryna keep the roaches/mice out of it. That’s the only explanation I know of since it’s common in poorer areas or in the country side cuz of field mice.

Ah, the existential nightmare of setting aside time to play a video game, in which you're too busy working to be able to play video games.

Anyone remember that old school PC game called Hover? It was capture the flag with bumped cars. The screensaver on the computer made me think of it.

Fun fact: If you put dry snacks in the fridge they stay fresh longer. Also keeps pests from getting into them. If you're like me and don't stuff a full family size bag of chips down the food hole in one sitting, you'll appreciate a nice cool fresh chip out of the fridge.

You didn't close before you left. You had the "open sign" and the name still lit up. Might be why there was so much overnight garbage. Just a thought 😉 I wouldn't expect Arin to do it any other way though lol.
