My Mom used to make ham the same way but replacing the water in the pan with Coke or Cherry Coke. It just steams into the ham and doesn't change the flavor. Victorinox makes a really nice paring knife and I love their serrated knife for tomatoes. I give a Victorinox chefs knife to the grandchildren when they are old enough, reasonable priced. has a nice handle for new cooks and stays sharp a long time.

One of my favorite holiday meals. I grew up with clove studded ham. My Mom cut the skin & fat in diagonal diamonds, studded each intersection with a whole clove, wrapped in foil & cooked on low for a couple of hrs. Then unwrapped, cut off fat & skin diamonds then toothpicked pineapple slices with maraschino cherries in the middle of each. Baked at 350° for another hour. It was beautiful! We have roasted sweet potatoes or potato salad, green beans & pineapple souffle for sides. And yes, we use the ham bone for flavoring beans, bean or split pea soup or greens.

All ham brands I've used this past few years have quite a bit of water. I will put it over a charcoal smoker and seal the pan well with heavy duty foil. I will add a little water or broth to get it started but have it almost full of water that has been rendered. This really intensifies the ham taste. The ham is close to falling apart. It's great this way too but I like to pull the foil and throw a wood chunk on the coals and get some smoke on. Not a true smoking but added flavor! Going to do this today! 😍😍😍 God bless all here

Hi there...have enjoyed your videos since I found y'all a few years back. Since my family came from up your way....back in the early 1800s and they brought our way of cooking from the Carolina's here (North West Florida) that has a lot in common with your recipes. Even the cooking of the ham. My Mom (lost her almost 4 years ago now) use to save the ham drippings to make ham rice with and my kids and grandkids really love it. Simple to make....taste the drippings first to test for saltiness, add water to the amount of yellow rice the bag calls for and cook by the directions on the bag. You'll be surprised how great it taste!

I'm 67, my mother is gone and I haven't had it in probably 50 years! You just reminded me of that and how spoiled I must have been! Though not TOO spoiled. Mom had a strict "This is what I made for dinner - take it or leave it" policy! LOL

My pan leaks so I cover the bottom with heavy duty aluminum foil and still use it.

My piano teacher gave me a Victorinox paring knife one Christmas and teased me saying "The knife is so sharp you'll be sure to cut yourself and you won't have to practice piano!" Still using that little knife twenty-five years later. Miss Cindy is a pretty lady and you are, too. Love your videos.

Does Miss Cindy, Granny, brother Paul, Corrie& Austin all live close by? How fortunate and each of you so multi talented. And Tipper began it all by sharing her love. No wonder the girls stay close to home!

Oh, yes. I always loved baked ham when I was a kid because that meant mom's pea soup was coming.

This was so interesting. Mum used to encase the ham in a dough mixture and slow cook it, then she had to get dad to come in with his hammer to open the dough up, but it was cooked lovely inside there. Cheers from Wendy

This is the second time I have watched this video. The first time was before we knew how ill Miss Cindy was. We really have to think of every day as a blessing.

Ham and potato salad my Uncle Joe would approve. His wife Aunt May made the ham and Uncle Joe made the potato salad 5 pounds of potatoes at a time, and it was delicious. I don't know how often Aunt May cooked a ham, but I never went fishing with Uncle Joe that he didn't have a couple ham sandwiches for his lunch, on white bread with yellow mustard. Miss Cindy is just lovely.
