Awesome list. I especially agree with The Cure's Disintegration. It's actually my favorite album from The Cure (and my all time favorite album). I first got into The Cure in 1989 when I first saw the video for Lovesong. At the time, I was 7 years old and just discovering more music outside my R&B and Hip Hop circles. I later bought the Disintegration in full once I got into High school and it was one of those albums that I played nonstop on my CD player. And it was The Cure that got me to explore other groups within the Goth/Post Punk scene. One of the greatest moments of my life was when I got to see The Cure live in Houston back in 2016. It 2as worth every penny.

Nice to hear someone that’s not my family show support even strangers. Much love 🖤 also YES listened to floodland this afternoon and absolutely love it. This corrosion was my first foray into the goth subculture after seeing the worlds end and dressing like Gary king for a costume on Halloween but I felt comfortable in it. That was the beginning in 2013!

Having the Chameleons on your list is like, oh yeah, these goths know the culture, 100%. I never had the aesthetic, I'm too simple, I like my t-shirts and jeans. But I've been listening to goth music for about 11 years now and I'm thankful for bands that don't dress the part because then I don't feel like an outsider in an outsider culture. Was wondering if you've ever heard of Theatre of Ice and if so, what's your opinion on this little known band? And if not, I think you would both like their song, "A Cool Dark Place to Die". It's super lo-fi, self recorded death rock made in haunted houses in the deserts of Nevada and Utah USA.

I totally agree about The Chameleons. They were the best-kept secret of post-punk bands from the 80s as they weren't well-known in the US. I had to introduce them to other Goths at the time who went through that decade without ever hearing one song of theirs.

Nico is the Gothmother! Her lp trilogy The Marble Index (1968), Desertshore (1970) and The End (1974) set the foundations in terms of sound, lyrics and atmosphere, being the primordial seeds of Goth. Together with Velvet Underground luminary John Cale as her producer and arranger, they inspired and influenced several of Goths most important acts. Nico started dressing entirely in black, dyed her hair henna and used dark eyeliner in the late 60s, predating the Goth look and "heroin" chic by years. - Bauhaus went on tour with Nico in 1981 and covered John Cale's Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores on their In The Flat Field lp in 1980. - Siouxsie covered the Velvets Venus In Furs and also Cale's song Gun on her Through The Looking Glass lp in 1987. Cale produced her 1995 album The Rapture and toured with The Creatures in 1998. - Joy Division covered the Velvets Sister Ray, in an interview Peter Hook named Cale as one of his music gods - The Sisters Of Mercy covered Sister Ray by The Velvet Underground - Christian Death covered Venus In Furs in 1993 Between 2008 and 2012 Cale did some gigs with various guest musicians in honour of Nico, labelled A Life Along The Borderline: A Tribute To Nico. Among the musicians were Peter Murphy, Lisa Gerrard, Soap&Skin, Mark Lanegan and several others.

That is a pretty perfect list, I have to say! As an elder(ish, I'm 46) goth, I'm surprised to not see any MIssion on your list(although your honourable mentions list went too fast for me to see hahaha), but they always divide opinion. No early Cult either! All About Eve are a band you should check out, but they are more of a flowery goth band, but still amazing. Especially their first 2 albums. I only found your channel earlier this week, and I'm loving the videos!!

Could not agree with you more. I am what I call a “closet” Goth. I love the scene, the clothing, and especially the music, but have never felt the urge to dress up. I always stood out at shows. The Mission is the band that got me into Goth music. Though if I am being honest…. By the time they did Children, they sort of were not all that Goth. Wayne stopped deepening his voice as much but the themes of a lot of the songs were still pretty “goth” I think. The First Chapter and Gods Own Medicine are pretty Goth. All About Eve is one of my favorites as well, main,y due to the connection to the mission making them one of the first bands I got into at the time. Diva Destruction is / was great. Much newer band. A decent Mission wannabe style band from where I grew up Prophetess was kinda alright haha. Discovered this channel on June 1 2023, my 52 B-Day haha.

I am not really a goth per se, just some dude living his best life out here and finding new and exciting channels. Anyhow, I am more into dungeon synth and funeral synth than goth but something I would like to have you try is a Japanese underground idol group called NECRONOMIDOL. Their image and style is based in horror, the occult and Lovecraft. Try a few of their songs, I believe their whole catalog is available here on KZbin. I saw that you had pent some time in Japan so I thought you might like the suggestion. If you need more information or have questions just let me know.

I never ever suggest albums, and it's not really a gothic band but Smashing pumpkins' Adore is my all time favorite. It is an album where I love each song but also the whole, it is obviously meant to be listened to like 1, 2, 3, 4, each track after another, because each song is like a sentence in a story. It has all the emotions you can imagine, confusion, devastation, saddness, hopelessness. For Martha and Blank page are favorites from the more depressive tracks, but also Pug is superbly aggressive and passionate.

I've been curious to check out the "official" goth music I've been hearing about. I got into the "alternative electronic" goulash of genres a year or so back, when I discovered Communion After Dark. However, that is an entirely different scene, so I'll definitely refer to your list of music to get some new music, and make an entirely new playlist in my Library. *Side Note:* Two songs. I was wondering where these fall between the dark wave/alternative electronic genres, and this? _"My Religion Is Dark"_ by Massive Ego _"Alpha Draconis"_ by Angles of Liberty

Just discovered you guys via this video and am now a subscriber! Great playlist and I discovered some new artists to check out. I agree with previous comments about Type O Negative...but glad to hear you like them - looking forward to a future goth metal playlist please and if I can make a cheeky request can you put 'creepy green light' on it 💚

Whoa really?? I remember looking on their band camp and it was like 20 quid for a physical copy. But yeah shipping and import from the US can be such a pain 😔

Oh, I remember Nighttime when it released. That and the first album are pure gold! When it comes to chamelons, I was stupid for Swamp thing! I bought the 12" single. Something I feel that goes with that on my playlist is XTC's Dear God. As an Atheist, I LOVE that song. I never tire of it. Of course I still love The Cure and Siouxsie and so forth. I listen to Budgie and Lol's podcast, Curious Creatures. They talk about so much on that show. The episodes are only 30 minutes a piece but they are so interesting!! And I'm 57 btw. Have a great day. I really enjoyed this episode. Much love from an old Rivithead/Goth leaning old man.🖤🦇😎💪🥾🛠️⚙️⚒️
