Our first backpacking overnight in years

I'm looking forward to more Mom-N-Sons adventures. I think you 3 would have a blast doing a 3 or 4 dayer across that big hole in the ground! Side trip to Ribbon Falls on the morning of day 2, soak in the Bright Angel Creek and the Colorado River on day 3. Pre-order lunch from Phantom Ranch on arrival at Day 2, Group Dinner that evening in the Canteen, and Breakfast the next morning in the Canteen, and side trip to Plateau Pt. on day 3. 4.5mi to the top on day 4 with ice cream at the deli at the top... followed by huge pizza from Maswick Lodge food court.
