Heavier leads would help with your hook holds guys! Also drop the leads so they pop up to the surface 👌🏼

We were using 4oz tbf but could have probably gone heavier in France with the bigger carp
@SPS_survivor2 жыл бұрын
@@FreshFishing was it a barbless rule? If not perhaps a wider gape hook pattern depending on rig obviously. I just got back from a beautiful trip to a complex called Abbey lakes - only 2 hours from Calais and smashed my 38lb pb with a 53lb proper old beast. Hard fishing but the rewards are huge. Check out the ridgemonkey videos on KZbin. Great fun video guys! Where was it? A runs water for sure but I liked the pool etc 👌🏼
@FreshFishing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was barbless mate. Have heard of abbey lakes, supposed to be class! Well done on the PB. The place is called Villereal mate it’s southern region of France. Apparently it’s not quite classed as a runs water and can be tricky but judging from our session it certainly was a runs water haha
@SPS_survivor2 жыл бұрын
@@FreshFishing barbless would definitely be a big factor in losing fish. If you can find a local lead producer rather than the Korda or Fox ones it’s well worth dropping them every time, you’ll find that 99% of the time that the fish will automatically swim up away from the bottom enabling you to keep them out of the snags. You’d love it at abbey - 6 lake complex with great facilities - tackle and bait, bar, great showers and big lakes with fish up to 70+ and some huge cats at well over 100+ (we chanced it the last 4 trips taking bait and not had any problems at all) Check it out - we’re just about to book our 5th trip in under 2 years lol 😂

Paul from Two Novice Anglers here. Brilliant video.Really enjoyed it. Crazy catching the same fish again. We don't even have a carp rod but each have a PB double on the fly rod. We are seriously looking at this venue for our holidays. Any advice on a beginner's set up?
@FreshFishing2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, advice would be just to keep things really simple. Standard hairrig setup for your hook and just a lead or feeder. Keep the bait going in and stick to a few spots. 😁

Classic error for the inexperienced in France stripping off in the heat. Sunburn, sunstroke, mozzie bites and worst of all the potential of tick bites if you venture into long grass baring bare legs. And it’s no joke either. The sun so much stronger, no sun block that first careless day can ruin the trip and is even a skin cancer risk. Worst by far is the tick and there’s a season when you are most likely to acquire them, early spring. Any long grass where wildlife like deer may frequent or come in to drink in winter could be full of them. And they tend to bury themselves in the warmest and sweatiest parts of the body too…I will leave that to the imagination. The real issue though is they often carry debilitating Lyme disease which can leave you will debilitating exhaustion for years. If a red ring appears after a bite that’s a sign of infection. And you need special tools to get them out without leaving the head behind which again can infect. I have been to hospital twice to take them out. My advice to all carpers in France in spring after bitter experience, keep lightweight full length cargo pants on, preferably tied at the bottom so nothing can jump on and climb up there. They react to vibration and sweat to jump on prey….which is a Roe deer or you. They will be in any long uncut grass in spring potentially. So stick to the hard areas, the cut grass, the trodden paths, that will hugely reduce your chances of living with buried ticks taking your blood. OK so you won’t get that all over tan but that’s a small price to pay for maintaining your health long term.

Good video boys , loosing alot of fish tho lads you know what you’re doing but could you be tying your rigs the wrong way as even on a size 6 hook you shouldn’t loose that many fish hook size doesn’t really make a massive difference aslong as it’s sharp and is hooking the fish as it should you shouldn’t have that many hook pulls, good Channel tho👌🏽👌🏽
