This type of punishment is called transportation in IPC . Now it's no longer in use.

I visited the cellular jail in 2017, and the most depressing part was the way people were behaving there. Places like these should affect people in terms of sympathy and at the same time should have the highest regards for those freedom fighters who gave it their all for us.. Instead I found people taking selfies , laughing and making a mockery out of themselves by taking pictures inside the jail cells holding the bars..

It's a dark reality that we fought together, but this dark reality has not made us realize that we fought together to eliminate an evil empire. In the comment section, there are those who celebrate and will celebrate those who supported the British in keeping India divided and burning so that a few could rule unquestioned. Again, it's a dark reality.

Please read about the punishment which other prisoners underwent such as Dr. Diwan Singh. Savarkars story will feel like a trip to Bahamas.
