Our first EDF - Freewing F-8 review

We recently received our Freewing F-8 Crusader from Motion RC, and it is one awesome little machine for sub-$100. If your an intermediate RC pilot and have never flown EDF, this is a great place to start.

Nice maiden! I destroyed 3 70mm F16s on their maidens, now I fly the 64mm F22 with stabilizer and been doing great. I will be adding the Catfish Crusader to my fleet of 1.

I have several of these 64mm freewing jets. You can slow them down pretty good. Give it a try next time. Not to mention it is not good for your lipo going full throttle like that. Throttle management is key. It also wears down the brushless motor prematurely. Get the nose into the wind and it can pretty much hover.

You’re right. I need more practice at slower flight. What capacity battery are you running? I’m wondering how weight affects this.

Well I run an 1800mah all the way up to a 2200mah. It's funny my first jet was was a small little mig 15. I learned how to fly with that jet. Never flew a prop or nothing. Started with jets. Now I fly the big boys. Also have a few monster prop planes as well. But yeah not to slow, it is a jet and they will tip stall if your going to slow. But you can go half throttle comfortably.

You have to keep it at full throttle on some of these F8s. Mine barely takes off and only after taxiing for 80 feet. Then it's a total dog in the air.

Are you still working on your Simple Scout 3d fuselage? Any plans to release it to the public?

Tom T The Scout fuselage was more of a first try at designing for printing. The scout really isn’t the best plane for it. Lots of lessons learned. I may revisit it, but atm I’m working on a 3D printed Simple Cub and it’s coming together quite nicely. Stay tuned...!
