Leopard geckos may be desert lizards, but they are NOT basking lizards like bearded dragons. They don’t need 90 degrees. That’s too hot for them. They really don’t need any special lighting at all. Most research says that and a lot of other reptile store employees say that as well. Sure, you can give them UVB if you want, but they are also even just fine with an LED light and a heat mat. Mine is doing great with just those two things alone. She also has her 3 hides as well. Leopard geckos mainly get the heat from their bellies. It makes sense, because they are crawling on their belly, so if they are getting heat like that from the mat on the hot side, then why double it with another heat lamp on top ya know? Like, make it make sense.

Hey, i love your setup it shows that you have done your research. One tip i have for you that ive learned from personal experience is that you wanna interact with the leopard gecko because they can really just “turn” on you and its gonna be much harder to handle it. im currently trying to get my gecko used to me so ive been hand feeding him his mealworms. Another tip is to buy your mealworms in advance to getting the gecko that way you can gut load it so your gecko gets the nutrients it needs, try putting the mealworms in a small well ventilated enclosure like one of those plastic tanks and feed them vegetable scraps :) Hope this helps you !!!
@rickylopez91896 жыл бұрын
just dont put them in a warm room because they will turn into darkling beetles

just to let you know, a 10 gallon is fine for a baby but when it’s an adult you really should get it a 20 gallon or larger! another tip is that front facing enclosures are a lot better for leopard geckos, they feel more comfortable and less stressed when they see you coming for them than if you were to grab them above like you would with a terrarium/aquarium. Exo Terra and zoo med make really great front opening enclosures if you’re interested! make sure you have a little dish in the tank with pure calcium in it for it to eat as well! it’s extremely important that it’s pure calcium as well. other than that your tank looks really good, good luck with your gecko :)
@agirlandherreptiles16965 жыл бұрын
Great for a baby leopard gecko. But I would recommend a 24 Wx18D x12H exo terra when he reaches a larger size. Don't forget a calcium dish for the Repashy calcium plus.

One of the things that always stands out in videos of setups is often the use of multiple small hides in different areas of the cage. While not wrong per say, it is not how these animals use their habitat in the wild. A single, large but low-height hide that spans the heat mat plus cooler areas around it would allow the reptile to be warm, cool, or in-between. This is just like a rock crevice or burrow network. Add something for humidity and you cover all basis - warm graduating to cool and dry graduating to humid. For reptiles in nature, it is never hot spot then cold spot. It is hot spot closer to the surface, then gradual cooling as you go deeper into the burrow or crevice. In Winter, it is the opposite. In cages, a gecko adjusts by perhaps having just a portion of its body on the heat and some of it off the heat. A large but again low-height hide that covers it all is best.

@@jjizzler9592 Really...absolutely not! If an reptile is sick or injured it's best to keep them in smaller areas as to further prevent injury or aide in getting around. That sounds like something from somebody that's too cheap to spend an extra 20$ for correct enclosure and only feeds crickets! Think about it..they don't stay in a 10" area in the wild..would it be enriching if you lived 24/7 in your bathroom never leaving it!

They need 2 more hides 💕💕 One humid hide, one cool hide, and one hot hide (which I think you have) and definetly at least a 20 gallon when they are adults
@markgiacalone98004 жыл бұрын
A single hide (a low-height hide) that spans the heat mat and unheated area around it is the best way, instead of tiny hides that are hot or cool and no in-between. Adding some sphagnum moss for humidity as needed in there as well. That is a more realistic scenario. In the wild, they use a burrow or rock crevice and move in it as needed to be closer to warmth or go cooler or go humid. One area with it all available.

Leo’s need 3 hides, a warm one, a colder one, and a wet hide for shedding :) also they need a calcium dish. The calcium has to be 100% calcium and the dish can be a water bottle cap. The food can be dusted with calcium with D3. Also the water bowls need to be shallow because they can’t swim. If I’m wrong about anything please tell me because I am hopefully getting one soon.
