For this week's adventure, we're heading to the @home Maid Cafe in Akihabara which is having a special Gudetama month, and we're having our first maid cafe experience. Martina loves every second of it. I, on the other hand, need to re-evaluate my life decisions.

I would never be able to keep that squeky-voiced facade of cutesy manners for a whole evening the way these ladies do. Also... Enjoyed this video so much! My husband and I went to the @home maid cafe nearly two years ago, and had a very similar experience. We both really enjoyed the ambiance but also felt awkward. It is a weird combination of super cute and embarrassing moe-moe things. We had no problems eating there, despite extremely limited Japanese. The staff was very kind and many practiced their conversational English with us. Thanks for refreshing my memory! Glad y'all enjoyed it!

Recently i read a reddit post where they were asking these maid cafe workers what it's like to work there and the majority of them actually said it was super cringey and annoying. I'm sure that some of these people enjoy it and love working there but I'm also pretty sure that a good chunk of them hate it and just work there because there's nothing better.

MsCroatoan you're not wrong. My partner and I went to a maid Cafe and you could tell that the majority of them working there really didn't like it at all. Of course, I had fun but my partner loaded himself up with booze before and during the meal. Odd experience, but still worth it. However, the cost of it was a bit much. Then again it is one of those touristy things that they can bill highly on.

She was doing such her best and giving me compliments about my tattoos (DBZ tattoo, ofcourse she recognize it) and stuff, also showing the entire 'kawaii' menu she had to offer. Normally maid cafes, high end sushi restaurants and many other places in Japan don't allow filming, however Simon & Martina's agency can get them access. It's all about connections ! ha ha. You can take a photo with the maids though at extra cost as you saw in the video. It's all about extracting as much money as possible from the customers ha ha.

they really are, they cheat you out of your money, it may seem enticing but they basically jump foreigners and push them to come in, sit, have some tea, beckon snacks, and everyone in your group gets charged $50 for an hour in the cafe. its mainly a tourist trap

I went to one and although I don't regret it, I wouldn't do it again. Paid 600 yen for a tiny slice of cheesecake and 500 yen for a polaroid picture. If you wanted a picture using your own camera, you still had to pay. Then I think they charge per hour too. The decor and food was cute, but the whole act was cringy and I felt afraid. I'd say it's good to do once, just to say you did it.

@soohyunq The cheesecake was among the cheapest thing on the menu. But that thing was tiny, and didn't even taste like cheesecake. Maybe I'm being too critical, but I've had more expensive pies that tasted great, and without the maids that looked like they wanted to die. My friend really enjoyed it though. Ended up going to another one on his own time. I said no thanks, I'll be at the arcade. At least the cheesecake had a cute cat drawn on the plate.

It's always an awkward experience lmao. I went with my friend during my exchange to Japan and we liked the cute drinks, but the whole experience was REALLY awkward lol. At least we weren't the only girls who went. I think girls go there for the cute food and guys go for... well, the maids.

I feel for your server. I worked for this snobby pizzaria [they didn't have ranch, Simon. Isn't that awful? They were "too good" for ranch supposedly] who forced me as a bartender to go through a 1 min + shpeel on the history of the restaurant and "guiding" customers around the menu. No one enjoyed it, customer or worker. That food is effing adorable, though. "Swap orange juice for vodka" Your Polish side is showing XD

I would go just for the food! it looks really good.I don't understand though why the maid had to explain the WHOLE menu. doesn't make much sense to me. Although, I used to be a big anime and manga fan growing up so I'd also go just to know the difference between reality and fiction. I'm probably going to have prepare myself mentally though not to cringe..and drag and poor friend over. lol
