God, I hope this doesn’t come off as a really weird comment but... I found your channel trolling KZbin shortly after I lost my wife. I just couldn’t ever sleep and after she passed I thought I’d try something like you all are doing. The more I watch, I’ve learned so much. One, what I had with my wife lives on with you two. It brings me immense joy. Two, as a tavern owner and creating content for my place, I’m no longer afraid to just be me and video things I want to to help my place grow. All in all, thank you two for helping me. For keeping me going and giving me courage to put myself out there. Most of all, thank you for sharing your life with us. You’ve done more than you could ever know.

Accomplishing my financial goal of becoming debt free was my first goal and I'm now saving for my land. I must say watching the both of you accomplish yours, completing your home, has been a true inspiration for me. Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby girl. She's blessed to have the both of you. I was hoping it would be a girl. When my daughter was born years ago I was over the moon. Its fun to see you get this up/running. We did a 3 tank (7,500gal) rain harvest this year out our home as well and I'm just finishing up the last 2 tanks - so its very fresh on my mind. Just FYI - for long term, its recommended to use a flexible from connection from tank to pipe - i.e one of those rubber connectors - because the tank can flex/sink over time/weight-of-being-full and the pipe is rigid and it can cause a leak.

It gives great enjoyment watching you two work together on your project. It was good that the rain finally came and you were able to start pressure testing your system, though the pressures will increase as the depth of water increases. You are clearly thriving with the work and progress you are making. Do you get harsh winters and will you need to protect the water system from freezing? You do not mention the animals but I guess they are part of your lifestyle and farm business. The pregnancy appears to be progressing well you are positively glowing, I admire your abilities to get on with challenging work, it might become a little more of a challenge as things develop, it is good to get as much as possible done while you are not distracted and pulled a dozen different ways.

Should have added a flexible pipe to the outlets for this reason. The weight inside the tanks will change with the water level and don't forget the wind pushing against them.

Perhaps the gravel that was laid earlier on will help with preventing excessive settling.

@@robertinscoe2379 I don't think wind will be a problem. Water weighs roughly 8 pounds per gallon. So for a 1,000 gallon tank that would be 8,000 pounds plus the weight of the tank. They are round so horizontal movement should not be a problem.

Hi , I enjoy your channel. What I found very useful was a simple 3 by 4 wagon with a handle that I could drag about my small property. The wagon would hold tools and materials for the current project. As time passed on a sears lawn tractor (riding mower) became available and the wagon's handle was replaced with a bar that could be attached to the lawn tractor. Since Spencer can weld it seems a simple task for him to weld up a cart with a hitch so the suv can be backed up to the lake to transport water for cement mixing or anything else for that matter. Also, it seems the placement of the cement mixer could have been next to the pad so it could have been dumped directly into the forms. When I built my house etc, I had to do it myself so I had to think through the movement of material including welding up a narrow cart that could hold a large number of drywall sheets (and panels) that could be rolled around from room to room as needed with minimum of effort on my part. After this project ended, this cart evolved into a rollaround tool cart. Since it's 95 in the shade you want to reduce your effort where you can. Well, I really do like your channel,keep up the good work.

A secondary issue is ridged PVC out of the ditch into the tank. Despite how hard you try, the tanks will settle. Since the tank is heavier than the pipe, the pipe will eventually crack and leak. A more flexible joint is needed or, a steel connection out past the 90s would work also. You are not the first to experience this.

I can own it too, my issue is now that the water is sitting in the pipe that the leaf catcher isn't spilling over.
@peteredwards91475 жыл бұрын
Water always finds its own level, as long as the tops of the tanks are lower than the gutters, the tanks will always fill. All the downpipes from the house to the tanks will always hold water. Downwards pressure from the water entering the downpipes will always push water into the tanks.
@ModernMountainLiving5 жыл бұрын
@@peteredwards9147 Yes, I started the "Flush the Nasty" bit about the pipe holding water. The issue is weather the water ever overflows at the leaf screen. Since it is a gravity feed in a open system and not a pressure closed system that when the supply is greater than the capacity it will overflow at the leaf guard. Other issue is introducing the stagnant water into the tanks.
@rafaelparra57095 жыл бұрын
You admitted your mistake and that say a lot ( positive things) about you!🙂😉
@tbonemc21185 жыл бұрын
@@ModernMountainLiving The water sitting in the pipes isn't any different to the water in the tanks. The pipes will act as a sediment trap but have you ever looked inside a water tank. Sounds yucky but every water supply dam has a dirt base. The only time the leaf screen will overflow is when it clogs up with leaves. The system I built had the leaf screen built into the inlet of the tank so my pipes did fill up with leaves. I installed an access cap at the lowest point of the piping so I could flush out whatever was in the pipes. What these guys have done will work just fine. There are contractors who vacuum out rain water tanks when they get too dirty and they should filter out the muck before returning all the water back to the tanks.

Have you considered catching the water from your tank rooves? They are safe potable surfaces as they are. Just rig some gutter and set up some simple DIY backyard gravity-fed barrels and bingo bango you have garden/animal/emergency backup water without taxing your primary supply or system. It will also keep the ground around the tanks from becoming a mudhole from the displaced water. Maybe use those tanks to build some self-watering garden beds. A permaculture homerun! lol I appreciate how you guys learn from failure and always return to fix it properly!

I really like watching you two build your life together. If only more couples could do that. KEEP IT GOING.
