Many years ago, we lived at Cremorne Point, 2 headlands into the Harbour west from the Zoo. We'd normally hear the lions throughout the night

Great video. For exploring the city itself I wouldn't recommend hiring a car as a tourist. There's so much public transport and the new high speed underground "metro" opens in a few weeks too. We spent a few billion building it. But i guess you come from the USA where public transport is not good!

Thank you. Yes, coming from the US makes us a little leery of public transportation but living in Japan the public transportation is amazing!!!! We will try public transit next time we visit 😊

lol yeah we tend to cook breakfast and eat out the other meals of the day. I’m sure those cafe are delicious though.

@@williamsworld03 When we travel in Europe or Nth America, we try as much as possible to stay in rental apartments rather than hotels. It makes having breakfast in our own flat so much easier and more sensible. Then we have lunch and perhaps dinner out. It also gives a different sort of relationship with the city, we're more like short term residents than just passing through. In London for example, we found a pleasant flat the classic 10 minutes walk.from Harrods, and went back there several times later on. We'd buy something from Harrods for dinner that needed very little preparation and drink a matching bottle suggested by the staff in Harrods' bottle department to accompany whatever we'd just bought. We've not been to Europe since covid hit, and given our ages now, are unlikely to make the journey again. And of course, Harrods is no more

I hope this information isn't too jarring but I think it's important to share the history of Australia as much as possible! In the late 1700's Australia was colonised by the British and Europeans - hence the overwhelming white and growing multi-cultural population. Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders (who we don't refer to as Natives as it's disrespectful within our unique context) are the traditional owners of the land. Yet as a white government was erected through (horrific) colonisation from the 1780's onwards, Australia has been part of the Commonwealth - Britain's King is our King. You may notice Australia actually has two national flags - our commonwealth flag (union jack and stars) as well as our Australian Aboriginal flag (black and red, with a yellow circle in the middle). Whilst this country was industrialised by the British and Europeans, the land rightfully belongs to Indigenous Australians :) Hope this helps explain the story behind our architecture and style of cities! Loved this travel vlog a lot and have fun in Cairns!

It’s nice to see the Aboriginal Australians being recognized and it’s sad what happened there. I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to visit and I look forward to coming again one day.
