On surface level, you can see this song as a toxic romantic relationship. But on a deeper level it’s fake love towards yourself. In one of their docu-series, they mentioned that they were going through a hard time. Feeling burnt out, etc. but they didn’t want Army to worry about them so they would pretend everything was ok and went on stage and didn’t show their struggles. And during that time they were getting more and more popular and fans were falling for BTS. But if they’re not showing their real struggling selves, then is the fan’s love for them even real? Or is it fake love? The majority of BTS songs have double, triple meaning. True Army's are the ones that took the time to deep dive and understand the message behind the songs. A lot of BTS songs sound or look like a love song between a romantic couple, but the majority of the time it's not. For this reason, Army's really connect with their music. There's a deeper connection, and that's why Army is the most dedicated, devoted, and loyal fandom. And i say this about the one's that actually understand the deeper meaning, not the ones that stan BTS for their looks only. If you think of BTS as the average kpop group and you're only paying attention to their performance (which is great too), you're not getting the full effect that is the phenomenon of BTS. To properly deep dive into BTS is to understand where they came from, what they went through, to understand the reason behind their songs and albums. then all the puzzle pieces will fall into place. Being a newer Army, i have the privilege of getting a grasp of the deeper messaging because BTS has already explained certain reasoning for certain songs. Whereas in real time, they might have kept the message from public until a few years later. For example, their song by the rapline Outro: Tear was about when they were contemplating disbandment. Army didn't know this until a few years later. Whereas I found out even before hearing the song. On surface level, you might have thought it was about breaking up with a girl.

It is always more than surface value. That is why they inspire Army who love them so much for their beautiful story telling.

This is one of the mv's which goes through " BTS universe " strory line which is a whole different world which is yet to discover for you guys ... Namjoon’s pen game is crazy good… Also there are multiple levels of breaking down BTS music. First the lyrics, then the music video and at last the choreography. Because there are always levels to it! The fake love choreo of puppets, see no evil hear no evil speak no evil and so many other little things are important part of this song. Yeah you're right about it being a bit deeper than what it seems. Elements of this MV is related to the BU (Bangtan Universe). The BU is a multi-media narrative that includes music videos, books, webtoons, a mobile video game, etc to tell a fictional story. You don't need to engage with every single part of it if you don't want to go that deep but you can check out the MVs to get an idea of the story then check out a breakdown for supplimental stuff if you want. The MVs are interesting in itself. Like the J-Hope laying on the Snickers bars is a call-back to when his (fictional) mother gave him a Snickers bar to hold while they were at an amusement park before his mother walked away and abandoned him there (in the BU, not real life). It's representative of the fake love his mother had to have had for him in this narrative to leave her young child alone and abandoned. The last gift she gave to him. If you want to watch live performances, the KZbin channel 'Enjoy BTS More' has great English subtitles that are well-translated. The live performance and dance practice for this song are amazing. Some of my fave that they've ever done. It's 'Fake Love' and 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' that tie for some of my fave live performances (even though it's hard to really pick faves when they're all so freaking good for different reasons). Like the energy in 'Anpanman' and 'So What' are so fun live too.

“there has to be some breakdown videos” yessirr. I love when the snickers part comes on bcs it’s either people thinking it’s just random ( which at first I thought it was ), or people trying to find out what correlation it has with song, while also voicing what they think it symbolises. Its meaning comes into play with their storyline which is just yeah a whole different thing. I love hearing what people take from it tho, like the comment you made about it symbolising like a hunger for love honestly makes sm sense. It kinda draws in with the one where someone brought up the snickers slogan: “You’re not you when you’re hungry”. Which could also symbolise their hunger for love. Since in the song, bts is constantly talking about molding a pretty lie for a lover, or erasing themselves and becoming something that they’re not for love. I think it’s quite fitting “You’re not you when you’re hungry” “You’re not you when you’re hungry for love”

That "deeper meaning" you're talking about, relative to the visuals, is called the BU or "BTS Universe". It's a whole other world that connects many of their songs with deeper signs and symbols which mean many things.

As already mentioned, it has to do with the BU and J Hope's "mother" abandoning him at the fairground with just a Snickers bar. Yay he'll be back in less than three months! Welcome to the BTS Universe (BU) video...a fictional storyline that ties numerous BTS videos together and this is one of them. When they sing about love, it's about self-love. The storyline involves time travel, fantasy/drama, and tragedy. Pay attention to color/light,/shadows, objects (flower, mask, snickers, water, fire, etc.), lyrics (double, triple entendre, etc.), it's deep and usually disguised by an infectious melody, amazing choreo, and movie-like production!

Just to mention, the video in this one is part of what is known as the Bangtan Universe. It's a storyline they had during the HYYH era. But, as many mentioned here, BTS rarely is talking about romantic love, if at all. It's always deeper and more self love and improvement. Looking inwardsand not out sort of thing.
