Our First Ultrasound at 5 Weeks & 5 Days! It's Five?? ***Finding Out We Were Having Quintuplets

Hey there! We Are The Freels! We welcomed quintuplets into the world in June of 2023.
Here is our first ultrasound which was one at 5 weeks and 5 days gestation. It was a day we will never forget! It was so early, we weren't expecting to see any heartbeats, yet we saw five heartbeats, and five gestational sacs- meaning we were expecting five babies. Pretty crazy! Our heads were spinning so you may not hear a lot of talking towards the end. We wanted to make this video available to anyone who may be going through a similar situation.

When I was 39 I got pregnant with what I thought was my seventh child. At 9 weeks I told my husband that I suspected that I was having twins because I was feeling "fuller" than I felt during my previous pregnancies. He told me that I was nutshell. Later that day I told my family doctor the same thing and he looked at me like I was nuts. Because of my age and two previous miscarriages I had an appointment that day with a OB. I received the same look from him then went in for my ultrasound. I'll never forget the technician's voice when she yelled out "There's two! There's two!" I always say that I hit the baby jackpot. When I had my 2 children in the early 1970s, Ultrasound Scans were not available to NHS patients in the UK. I had to go 9 months wondering if I would have a girl or a boy. I would have LOVED to have had a scan to know the sex of my baby. Science has progressed so much and I would like to congratulate you both on the birth of your 5 babies. Love from New Zealand 🇳🇿 ❤

When my mum was pregnant with me in ‘69, she would have loved a scan too, she’d had my 4 brothers, and was hoping I’d be a girl, and when I was delivered, the midwife played a trick on her and wrapped me in a blue blanket. My mum said groggily, “i thought you said I’d had a girl, well I love him regardless” then she peeled back the blanket and…hello it’s a girl! 😂😂 she cried. She was my best friend, my confidant and I miss her so much.

It’s it so crazy how technology has changed the world especially with pregnancy. It’s so crazy to hear people’s stories. I can talk to my grandma about when she was pregnant with my tias and Tio (aunts and uncle) she said at the time they didn’t allow men in the hospital room when she delivering the babies and there so no ultrasounds she said the doctor would only hear the babies heart beat with like an earlier version of the stethoscope and that was it.

My husband brought 4 kids into our marriage from his previous relationship. Two of them are twins. When I went for my ultrasound they took ages until they said „everything is fine! I can actually see two babies“. And my husband jumped up, put his hands over his head and yelled „no…no…omg!! Omg!!“ 😂 and I layed there and tbh my first thought was „please wake me up out of this nightmare, why me“. Because all my life I was scared to have twins haha. But now we have them its just such a blessing. Hard work, but a blessing 🩷

It's incredible that they even found a single heartbeat that earlier. It usually takes longer. So yes. It's just still to early for most of them.

It's just the generic measurements at the time of the ultrasound. The "gestational age" or "due date" changes all the time as baby grows, but usually evens out by the end of the pregnancy. Just like how your weight will be different in the morning vs after lunch vs end of the day. Basically, one baby's sac is slightly larger than the other baby's sac. They were still conceived at the same time

How did they know she was having multiples if this was her first scan at 5 weeks. I’m a midwife and the only way I can think of is if her hcg was super elevated. Which can indicate a multiple pregnancy. But 5 babies, wow! I really think fertility clinics need to be more conscious of the risks of multiples. Especially as high as 5 foetuses!!! It’s quite irresponsible to stimulate her ovaries as much as this.

Her hormone levels In her blood were extremely high, which is why they had an ultrasound this early to find out how many babies there were. In a normal pregnancy with one baby the hormone levels at 1 week are at around 200....hers were 6,300 at a week so they knew it was a multiple pregnancy.

They did IUI and apparently his swimmers were so good that they made 5 babies 👶 at once.

I am genuinely interested to know why they performed an ultrasound so early? Did the Dr hear multiple heartbeats and the ultrasound was to confirm how many? Does your Dr always perform an ultrasound at 6weeks and what is that purpose exactly? I never even went to the Dr until the 12week mark so I am curious. The Dr only did a scan at 20weeks if I wanted to know the sex otherwise there was no need.

A six week scan is very typical after fertility treatments. They want to check location and viability. Sounds like she ovulated many eggs, so confirming a uterine pregnancy and not an ectopic is vital.

This sonographer definitely needs to go back to school to learn how to ‘discuss’ more what she is doing and what she is seeing instead of leaving the parents hanging for that excruciating amount of silence measuring and scanning. 😖😖😖 Not to mention KNOW more about what she’s seeing, too. Cause it is crystal clear that there are five developing areas/yoke sacs/embryos.
