I did notice that he really relied on his eyes to express emotions and it kind of helped tie in to the cool mystery of Blackbeard at first. Like he came across as seeming bemused by everything Stede did bc he wasn't showing a lot of lower facial expressions.

I think it was an excellent idea to have two actors who know each other and like each other play strangers just meeting. Bc then onscreen, the easy chemistry and knowing each other from a long time comes off as an instant connection between two strangers. It worked perfectly for Stede and Blackbeard bc now you have two people who shouldn’t mesh well become basically friends within the first few minutes of each other. Suddenly these two strangers have this special connection that leaves the other characters scratching their heads to how in the world it happened. (Spoilers) and also makes it believable that they could fall in love so quickly

I so appreciate their easy and flexible masculinity. Kissing your buddy? Just another day at work. I love that it's not even a thing they necessarily talk about much. Just what you do as an actor. And also, they're so easy with each other, it's not even much to think about at all. Seeing yourself reflected as a queer person in media... man. It does something to your heart

@@k4eru20 no quite succession, but nearer that than OFMD tone wise. it's a drama with comedic moments, and a healthy measure of self-awareness. the writing is insanely good imo, it takes a lot of notes from classical greek tragedies!
