Next time you have a car with dead clear coat, buy a small tin of Penetrol from Bunnings and paint the affected panels(roof, bonnet, boot) with a brush. The Penetrol sort of self levels and dries to a nice deep shiny clear coat that lasts for a long time(atleast 12 months). Did it to an 08 Focus with farked paint, no one wanted to buy it for 6 months so painted it with Penetrol and it looked so good a neighbor offered me more than I had it advertised for 6 months online. I see it almost every day and it still looks decent 12 months later

sorry, 3rd comment... in regard to faded paint, on my BMW bootlid, I was able to very carefully sand all the oxidised clear coat away, down to a very consistent and 'intact' basecoat. I then just shot some new clear on it and it's been great ever since. I attempted the same thing on the roof but it totally failed and I have no idea why. The new clear became hazed within a few months and it now looks worse than it did before I started.. After those experiments, I'm gonna bite the bullet and just do a full closed-door respray and be done with it.

Thanks for the support, I brought this car for him many years ago as a muck around car to drift/race, but we found out not long after buying it, that it is number 4 car to produced in Aus. Whilst not practical as a daily, we have keep it as rarely gets driven, in this shoot we had moved it out of the shed as we were going to film the magna video in the shed but ran out of time. (this video was done last week)
