Jane and Michael, I really wish you would add a "Buy Me A Coffee" button to your channel. You two have shared so much excellent information and you have been a tremendous source of inspiration for thousands of us. I would really like to repay you for your hard work. You could do what you want with it - fix your greenhouse, buy plants, donate it to your animal charity, or just go have a coffee once in awhile. It's not charity; it is a gift of appreciation to you two for providing all of us with hundreds of hours of entertainment and advice. Please consider it. Thank you for your excellent program.

I had RSV so spent alot of time resting up and recovering. Even then, I stayed frugal using warm salt water and my neti pot, honey and lemon tea and lymph node self-massage to quickly rid myself of the nasty virus! I stayed upbeat and was really grateful for having a fully stocked freezer and pantry. My gallon of homemade frozen chicken stock really was wonderful! 🍲 🍵 👍

Today I cut up a large 2000 callender that has great prints of a certain well known artist. I cut to size and put in 8 new frames that I purchased from Wilkinsons Store on the last day of closing down. I paid 20p each for them. The original cost was £6.49 each. I am an avid Art Collector and these next to no cost exhibits go well among my expensive/investment Art. They give as much pleasure as the real stuff I own.

We often buy the card of any art that we like and put it in a frame ourselves - much more reasonable way to get some art around the house. Don’t get me wrong, we have some originals that we deem worth the spend, but it’s nice to have smaller pieces amongst them too!

I had the same issue on my property of five acres where the deer tramp through every day. Two years ago, a friend told me that dee won't jump into small enclosed areas so I fenced a little area on the southern side of the house and a small corral area for my roses with a six foot wire fence. It worked! The deer have never jumped in the fenced areas and my roses are thriving.

Lovely tour of your garden, it’s fabulous to have so much space, frugally speaking, today I have sold my car so will share my hubbies and use my bicycle more, I used my car mainly for work, but having taken early retirement last year, I found I wasn’t using it so that’s an annual saving of £200 road tax £150 insurance £48 Mot, (pray it passes), Petrol, wear and tear all extra, Now to downsize the family house to something smaller as our lads have now flown the nest. Exciting times ahead, Best wishes, Lisa

Hi Jane, as you do have wet ground, you should plant some willow trees. If you know someone that are trimming there trees, ask some small branches, these you can put directly in the ground without roots. Also you can create some hedging with the branches. Also every x year you could have some firewood from the branches.

Thanks for sharing Mike and Jane, your garden is lovely! We are doing the same this year. No spend on the garden, just mowing and tidying. Also trying to plant things that are in pots to cut down on watering. Once they’re in the ground, we never water our lawn or beds. Lots to do in house still after moving in over two yrs ago. Will get done as we can save for things. No rush, we’re only 65😂 Take care, and thanks for sharing.

I was thinking that if it isn't too expensive, you could set up a deer feeding station well away from any trees or plants you don't want eaten. That would distract the deer from your growing plants. It's nice to have deer come right into your yard. You could take pictures of them.🙂Every year at tax time, I do my own taxes. It's one of my least favourite chores, but it is relatively expensive to have a company do income taxes for a person, so I brace myself and do my own income tax and then send it to the revenue agency. That's what I did this week. 🙂

Things are looking so green and pretty around your place! I love getting back outdoors in spring, cleaning up the flower beds and just around the yard in general, seeing all the new leaves and baby plants popping up. We have a few new little trees that we're going to plant, and we've seen that people in our area use grow tubes to put around them to discourage the deer until the trees get tall enough that the leaves are out of reach. We've wondered if chicken wire would work.We definitely need to research that - find out where to get a few grow tubes and what the cost would be, or whether chicken wire would work at all.

Love the garden tour, it's always interesting to see the challenges people deal with in creating their gardens. Those pesky deer are a nuisence, but there is very little that you can do about them so, as you say, you just have to work with what you have. For my own frugal journey, I realised that my kitchen storage wasn't really working, and that I could sell the ceramic jars I was using and get clear containers so I could easily see what I had of each dry ingredient. Project sell the Portmeirion is underway!

Hi Jane and Mike. What a lovely garden tour that was. I really enjoyed it. You are surrounded by some beautiful scenery. Those deers don't half party there.😆 As you say, little can be done about it. Would be nice if you could spot them some time. Also how well you've done with the border. I love hydrangeas. Mine usually grow into a gorgeous bluebell colour. Just wish the colour would stay on for slightly longer, although they do fade to a nice shade also. When the weather warms you do feel like doing more. Can see why you're avoiding walking on the damp grass for now. My lawn is taking a while to dry out this time with all the rain. If not careful, it begins to resemble a football pitch, when played on in wet weather. I've been managing to mow it, but I'll be glad when it's fully dry. I too have been out weeding borders this week, when the weather has been fit. There has been a wind chill here in north west England so I haven't stayed out too long. It's felt bitter cold when stood in one spot for any length of time. Hopefully it'll start to warm up in the next couple of weeks. 🙏 As well as cleaning around the house, I've also been out walking this week which I can do quite often now I've retired. As we know, all of these activities are free and are a good way to exercise. No gym needed. 🤷 Yes, I would be interested to see how your solar system works in the summer Jane. You do so well with the electric saving. Thank you for sharing this video. 🤗🌼🪴🌺

Used up a load of beans in various forms, cooked butter and black beans from the freezer, a jar of rather good brown ones from somewhere, and got out a lovely pottery lidded pot I got for very little from a potter years ago because the lid doesn't fit well (still works fine!), and made a big bean crock with onions and garlic and carrots and fresh herbs, which made two lots of meals and was very tasty. Think about getting a shredder to make mulch, if you haven't got one? Not the cheapest thing, but the Bosch one we got years ago had certainly paid its way, and with the amount of prunings and brushwood you must have it should be worth it. It's electric so you could run it off your solar box.

I really enjoyed seeing what you've been up to. We had sunny, windy weather here yesterday, perfect for getting loads of stuff on the airer. I had planned on getting more outside today, but we've had quite a few showers - not forecast - already this morning. We've been enjoying some very muddy walks in the beautiful countryside around us in Kent, close to the East Sussex border. I got some seeds in yesterday - mixed Tuscan salad, spinach and leeks, the broad beans have mostly survived the wet winter and we hope to get potatoes, shallots and garlic in over the Easter weekend. The rest of our garden is still very wet, as are a lot of the fields around here, plenty of cows still indoors. Have a good week x

Hi Jane and Mike I love your tour especially the creek. This week I've started to be guided by excersises on KZbin. I'm 62 soon and will benifit greatly. Also addressing my diet. The thing is I know what to eat health wise on a budget from google; but lack frequently doing so. All wehave is our health in our old age. ??? Thank God for Google and KZbin education

Perhaps you could build a square cage around your saplings when you put them in the ground. Metal posts or wooden posts encased by chicken wire or the like. Justin Rhodes (KZbin homesteader) does that to keep the cattle from eating his new trees.

I've been mulching with free aborist wood chips at both mine and my elderly neighbours house. We are at the end of summer here in Australia so I'm wanting to get a thick layer on to break down over winter to build our soil and it stops the winter weeds.

Hi Jane & Mike..... Apols.. as I haven't watched this video yet. Came on here as I saw an input from you.... (can't re find it!!!) re "not buying a coffee & letting adverts run" .... I just want to say "thank you" for that! I always let adverts run... & I just mute them!! Can I add here... that I do understand other KZbinrs asking/hinting re coffee - is ok with me but I do feel a bit guilty.... not contributing. But what really 'gets' me is when KZbinrs decide as well as their normal channel - they then open a Patreon Account. A few KZbinrs that I really like including some 'Frugal' sites are using Patreon!!!! And to me - that's a contradiction as for me - I simply do not have €£$ to spare. Plus - I do not bank on-line or purchase etc... by choice! It would be way easier to bank on-line etc.... & I'm well able to use Internet etc. KZbinrs that I've followed & gone Patreon - well, I feel so 'excluded' So, again... my thanks re coffee... Patreon absence. 🎉 0:30

Just place a cage of chicken wire around baby trees, very affordable 😮and easy to do. You don’t need to fence an acre and a half :-)We have a made a handful of these circular cages and use them over and overfor the smallest plants and trees in our garden until they haven grown sturdier.

I'd really like to get a solar generator like yours. Also would like to have drying racks or a clothes line again. This weekend we ate from our freezer, went for a ride in the car and hubby found my aunt's engagement ring under my bed. I have really bad knees. Oh, I read a book too...a real live book with pages. Hubby has his vegetables sprouting in our bay window which gets light all day long.

What a lovely property. I hope you can salvage your greenhouse plastic or find another solution. I so enjoyed your videos in it last year!. We used cheap vapor barrier plastic on ours and I'm thrilled to say that it has withstood our Canadian windy winter very well! We got it up very late last fall and I'm so hoping I'll have some success in growing something in there. Just a few more weeks to wait until I can start some seedlings....I'm so excited! Fingers 🤞.

Loved the garden tour, thank you!!! Here in Jersey our garden was also battered by the storm. It looks so forlorn at the moment and there has not been a break in the rain for, what feels like, months. Like you, our mission is to tidy and repair once the weather improves. I’m also looking for saplings and cuttings x

Do you have what we call here a chip drop? It's the tree branches that the power company cuts away from the power lines and they chip them to compost. We can get on a chip drop and when they are in our area they will dump their load on our property and we use that for mulch.
