Our Garden's Destruction in Tampa: assessing the damages after Hurricane Milton

In this video, we show you the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Milton, just weeks after we began to recover from Hurricane Helene. Our garden in Tampa, Florida, has taken a serious hit. We lost some of our most amazing trees and plants. The damage is extensive and will take a long time to rebuild, but we're not giving up!

I'm in St Petersburg. Love you and Mama Judy. My garden was devastated also. Lots of trellises down and/or broken. We evacuated, came home and just wanted to cry 😭 Been a long week of clean up and we're still not finished. I just keep telling myself that God has a plan to renew our garden. Keep the faith! ❤

I’m in Tampa too and lost many plants but not as many as your mom. Now I’m rebuilding and researching what plants do well with hurricane winds. Those are what I will rebuild with. Grateful home and family are ok.

Sorry mama Judy we are in the process of rebuilding our entire farm after a big destructive storm in Feb. 6 months later we have a whole new farm and in spring I’ll start redoing the garden. My favorite tree broke but my smaller plants survived luckily and we were able to push the mango tree back up and build a mound around the bottom and it’s doing fine, we didn’t get any fruit this year but it’s still alive. Good luck I look forward to seeing how you recreate your garden.

Your mom has put in so much work into her food forest. but I’m so happy that you guys are all okay. I’ve been checking for an update. Glad you all are ok but sorry about her plant friends. I lost some stuff too and it’s hard, you spend so much time with them. But it was a good time for fall cleanup anyways. It’ll grow back so much better in the long run.

I would definitely suggest contacting an arborist to check your mango tree and make sure that he doesn’t need to secure it in anyway. Having damage in the center can sometimes screw everything else up.

I'm so sorry, Mama Judy. But, you are all safe. If I can be of any help, I usually wait of things that are messed up and collected together, I wait a bit, what is uprooted will turn brown, and I pull apart from green or cut, and then I see live plants. Your beautiful pea flowers...but, I think they will be ok. They are so delicate but strong. They will find light and grow towards. I stack my pots that were blown away and then, use again. You will use again I know. And I would find complete plants , no it, just dirt, and growing ok. I stick back in a pot. You are the best, so who am I to tell you. This will be another project to work on. And...if you have compost pile, it will be a nice one now from all your plans and trees that can't be saved. And those plants will be good for all the others that come back. I'm so sorry. It's overwhelming, but you are so brave and strong! Love to all. I am glad you are all well ❤
