When we visit Japan we always bring back the Apollo strawberry mountain chocolates. There is just something about how the Japanese do strawberry chocolate that is so much better than anything in the US. Our friends always ask for the strangest flavors of chips we can find to bring home. The spinach and curry flavored Pringles were a hit!
I'm super thankful in Malaysia we have lots of Japanese stores that we don't need to travel to Japan just to get them, like the Sesame salad dressing. It's my favourite and I pack it three times a day with my salad. Last July, I went to Japan for a month mission trip under OMF to Aomori. (partly inspired by your channel!) The place was beautiful! Souvenirs I brought back were those famous in the region. Apple stuff. and then Hokkaido for the famous white chocolates. I brought Malaysian candy as Omiyage's for my team, and (surprisingly) found and bought Milo (Malaysian's version of hot chocolate) in a Japan supermarket store. They loved it. Also, I when I flew out from Japan at Hanaeda Airport, my boarding gate was number 144! Eventhough it has been a month ago, it was super nostalgic seeing that gate again in your video. ☺ Glad you're not leaving Japan! I would miss your Japan videos, and your kids are doing so well in Japanese school!

I'm going to Japan in a few weeks and bringing omiyage to friends. More than half of my luggage is usually reserve for omiyage, mostly chocolates (Ghirardelli squares/chocolate chips, Lindt, Reese's Peanut Buttercups/Pieces, Twix), a bottle of wine or two and cheese. Then, I bring back a bottle or two of nihonshu and similar snacks that you guys bought. This time, I'll also order some Royce Chocolates online, so I can pack them in my check-in luggage rather than putting them in my hand carry.

No one is worried… You and your family are well adapt to Japan, I think anyway… I just have full respect to your kids, growing up in Japan, different language, culture, education system and so on… Unbelievable… most kids would give in by now…but they seem to enjoy the challenge(living and studying in Japan)….
@lnt2265 Жыл бұрын
I think it is different. The kids grew up in Japan and the education system, so they don't know it different. But I definetly admire the hard working Japanese students. They learn so much stuff that is valueable in life, other countries should adopt some things.

I'm from Germany, so if I would visit someone outside the country than I would pack probably Ritter Sport (chocolate), Nippon (Crispy rice with chocolate), Leibnitz Butterkeks (Butter cookie), Soft Cake (Java cookie), lots of Haribo and other gummi candy lie Katjes, Nimm2 or Trolli, Schogetten (chocolate), TUC (salty cracker), Bake Rolls (Chips made out of bread), Schokorosinen (raisins covered in chocolate), Erdnussberge (blobs of peanuts covered in chocolate), Schokokrossies (blobs of cornflakes covered in chocolate), Ahoi Brause (fizzy sour powder you can eat it or make drinks from it, a true childhood classic), Campino (strawberry yoghurt flavored bonbons, so good)

Things that won't smell, melt, or get crushed. Instant coffee powder. Each country usually has something different. TEA BAGS! Instant hot chocolate powder if they have something unique. Things that won't melt in the heat. Chocolate can melt if the destination has hot weather.

My parents got so excited after we moved to Cyprus from where we used to live in Singapore and we found a Chinese grocery that had all of our old favs, sold steamboats set-ups (a hotpot variation originating in China) to make a type of Asian soup with veggies, seafood and meat, cooked right at the table and 'Old Town White coffee 3 in 1' sachets. It was their weekend guilty pleasure when they'd go to the Old Town Cafe near our house, for a white coffee and a slice of kaya toast.

When I left my family home in Singapore to return to my Uni in the UK, I'd always bring a pack of Maggi Mee 2 minute noodles (comfort food!) Milo flavoured chocolates, a huge bag of curry powder that was for my Uncle in Llandudno (the double bag exploded one year, so those school books still smell like curry! I still use them as reference texts in my job) and Ajax Laundry powder (smells like home, so I could launder my bedding with it!) When I flew out from the UK to spend holidays with my parents (and miss the coldest part of a Scottish winter,) my Mum always had me bring boxes of Batchelor's dried marrow fat peas, Bisto gravy granules, Colman's Shepherd's pie mix and chicken casserole mix. I also had recordable DVDs that Mum's sister had used to record the British soaps that my Mum likes to watch, but wasn't shown in SG, called Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
