Thanks legends, looking for rooftop tents atm and this honest review has really helped. Nice watching a couple of Aussies getting straight to the point, so easy to watch

Great video. I’ve had mine for over 2yrs now. My best mods are -2 Ryobi compact fans with 2ah batteries hanging from the bar on the roof. We live in Cairns. -Sheets from Drifted Off. Brisbane company who see the top sheep onto the fitted sheet. -Tontine mattress toppers from BigW on top of the mattress. We own the 1200 wide so got a local sewer to cut then down. We like the tent as it’s not claustrophobic for my partner. Keep up the videos guys 👍👍

Excellent and honest review. I must say that wind for any tent is an issue for obvious reasons. Thank you and cheers.

Great review, thanks for this. One tip to help with flapping flat straps is to twist them once or twice (if possible). Our tent on the trailer had flat straps for tie-downs and twisting them a few times (they were really long) helped immensely with the flapping and vibration from them.

Excellent review!!!! Can i confirm that you mentioned even with putting your own mattress and bedding in you can close it down effectively? That has been my main concern whilst we are looking for our next RTT. Cheers 🌞

I have this tent as well. Besides the wind flap which stops me from sleeping I'd say the worst part about that tent is that it zips open from the top. This means that if you need to go pee at night you have to unzip the entire thing instead of just slipping out the bottom.

Thanks for the review. We're shopping around for a good roof top tent that will fit on top of our Jeep.

Great, honest review guys. The Velcro hack is great…. Really should have figured that one out ourselves 😂

Good one. Last year (2022) I was also interested in this RTT, mostly due to its low height when closed, and weight. But decided against it due to its lack of a hard floor - I'm not a fan of the slot system that this RTT uses as its floor, and I prefer a clam shell style RTT. So instead, I ended up getting the Darche Ridgeback RTT when it went on sale last year. However, the Darche is 200mm thick when closed and weighs 85kg (40mm & 20kg more than the Drifta), so I've always wondered if I made the right choice not getting the Drifta. But after your honest review, you just further reinforced that I made the correct choice. 'Coz other than a $39 mattress topper, I haven't had to spend a single cent to make my Ridgeback very comfortable and liveable.

Zempire are super comfy but over time will leak. Everything in this industry is based on marketing and branding hype.

Egg shell topper from Clark Rubber is the go, we used it for years and it took the wooden hardness out of the bed.

And got to love the high cost for a tent that has no floor it has slats with a material cover.. It's basically a dune tent at twice the price
@aussiecue4 күн бұрын
Those slat bottoms let the tent breath when closed down for long periods. I'm starting to find out they are a better design as I once thought the same as you.
@regkershaw4 күн бұрын
@aussiecue fair call I guess. I did have a motop v4 and it had major issues with condensation and basically stuffed the tent. Ended getting covered with warranty and I now have the v5 motop and don't have any condensation inside

Flapping straps. This is a hack from our boat. Put one or two twists in the strap and the flapping will go away. Because of the twist, air gets pushed in all directions causing it to stay put 👌

James Baroud are the best RTT IMO. They are a bit exepnsive but zero flapping in the wind and weigh 60kg.

good video, but all the extras are included in more expensive brands. hence the price and weight of bigger brands, more expensive and heavier. for its price, the extras still make it cheaper than competitors.
@ldv5831 Жыл бұрын
So basically the tents great provided you rebuild it and redesign it with poles, new mattress, 2 meters of Velcro, stay out of the wind and pack it down if you want to recharge via solar .

Sigh, this was at the top of my list, 1.4 and 65 kg with the side rails but perhaps not. Have you come across other campers that have raved about another rtt?
@Always.n.adventure Жыл бұрын
We know people with bush company, alucab and camp king and they all love them, if we were to do it again we would definitely be exploring those 3 oprions and maybe even the bushwakka, havent done much research on it but i like that the front pulls up too

the side flip hard roof..... you mentioned solar return from the angle whilst im looking at kayak mounted to roof.... a side flip would be better than a front flip
@Always.n.adventure Жыл бұрын
Just have to be careful that you can physically lift the hard shell, with just 2 solar panels mine is heavy enough to lift, i have seen people with alot more weight on the front fold

The standard mattress is crap. Upgraded to the softer mattress which is reasonably ok

One thing about a tent on the ground is less dangerous going out for a piss at night. Great job.
