I would add the extra lights and make sure they are dimmable. We like adjusting the amount of lights. You can even add smart switches that can be controlled by your phone

That kitchen cupboard to the right of the sink that you were going to refab could have a glass door, with lights inside and glass shelves for displaying fine china. We did that with a kitchen and it was absolutely beautiful the way it glowed at night.

I would definitely do 6 lights in the living room, but put them on different switches if your tv is going on that wall. Why not get a wider sink that covers that whole window and move the faucet. Do bluetooth switches with dimmers to control the lights remotely and/or on timers. Good luck. Like what you’re doing.

regarding the lights, imho it would be about how much light is needed. i would only install enough lights to "light the space". chickens!!! yes!!! get chickens!!! :D what a great thing for the kids to experience and learn about!!! one WARNING though: if you plan to free range (let them roam) understand that any garden beds (be they ones with flowers or even shrubs) where you have maybe a stone border or you even just want a straight clean line between the "bed" and the lawn - the chickens will DESTROY that clean line and/or bury any stone border. my sister-in-law is struggling with this right now - i wish i could show you the photos. the chickens will scratch the dirt out of the bed and onto the lawn. so you might want to plan ahead exactly where the chickens are "allowed to go" if you want to preserve certain parts of your landscaping. you two seem to like things to look nice, so i thought you should be warned about this.

Looking great Kevin and Alicia. The kitchen and bathroom(s) are the most expensive to remodel but also give you the best return on investment. Custom cabinets may be more expensive but also can have a better build quality. Having worked in lumber yard, some “higher end” cabinets are not any cheaper cost wise than custom cabinets and frankly lack in the details of building. Great seeing and hearing the progress. Hays off to your builder also for digging in and exploring options with you all. 👍🏻👍🏻

I'm with you on centering and symmetry! We are replacing a 3 door custom slider with a stock 2 door plus a sidelight. And for an extra 5 grand, we will add the opposite and additional sidelight. Just for symmetry!! FIVE grand!! Always go with more lights! It'll matter down the road!

Since you’re putting a new window in over the kitchen sink, you could opt for a window box. My husband did that for me and I just loved it, it had a little shelf for kitchen plants.

I am an old man and it took me way too long to realize that you must always use nonethynol gas in all your power tools and you cannot beat Echo small engine tools! I have an Echo chainsaw, weedeater/edger, & leaf blower. I've had them for years and they start right up every time! If you like tools that start and last you are going to love your Echo tools!

We just built our retirement home. We love it and your video brought back so many “WHOA” moments. The canister lights were so expensive but we now know… the more the better. Also, make sure you include “dimmers” on your lighting. It is great to “set the mood.” I love our cabinets but I wish I had been more thoughtful on inside cabinetry purposes. A definite pull out in a cabinet for garbage. Skinny deep cabinet area for cookie sheets.I am so glad the most if not all lower cabinets have pull out shelves. So easy to store and find pots, pans etc. I’ll think of more later. ❤️

The power cord for you water pump if that happens here in Michigan most will cut the drive way with a saw like a little valley and hide the cord that way and the go back over it either with concrete or drive way caulk

If it was my home the dining room would be the room where your couches are. I would take down the fan and put a chandelier or nice fixture over the dining table. Blank wall a nice hutch/cabinet for china/nice dishes with recessed lights on a dimmer. The fireplace room would be living room/great room with couches.

When I was sanding my walls, I used a shop vac with a HE filter bag inside the shop vac and attached a hose to the exhaust port of my sander. The sanding dust was almost nonexistent after I used the bag. I also used Diablo Sandnet sanding disks which are reusable and darn near indestructible. I also recommend a face mask while sanding..Your project looks great!!

there is not a house in the world that doesn't have mice. mice can enter via a hole the size of the tip of their nose. their body collapses that easily. the only thing you can do is use the mice bait traps that the farm store uses. its been the only thing that helps. good luck and nice plans! oh and remember, it only takes money to fix it.

as far as those lights in the living. the lumen count on the bulbs will make all the difference. so keep 4 and use bulbs with higher lumens. it will save some money to keep it 4. plus the 4 defines the living and the pendent lights over the counter defines the kitchen from the living. just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, symmetrical is a good thing as is the straight panel bottoms. More lights which you can control as needed is how I'd go. Now I'm older, light is even more important. Good job being a BIG helper Ashlyn! Bubba is just a cute little man! Kayla didn't miss a beat either.

I used Lowes and had our kitchen designed with custom Kraftmade cabinets. Everything is soft close and pull out shelves. It was cheaper than local custom made. I agree with the person that said move dining by the front door and living to the back with more room, fireplace, and more windows.

Leave the ceiling fans we love our ceiling fans. Also go with the six recessed lights, but put them on separate switches. So you can use any 2 at any time. Also dimmers switches are a great choice. What color are you going to do the cabinets? Going to be beautiful.

I had slide out drawers in my island and it was great for pots and pans.. lids etc. Made it so much easier! I went to the custom shop and had them show me the up to date designs! Lazy Susan's are great on the lower cabinets when in a corner.... Soft close hidden hinges do not require a catch and are great!!

I agree about the curves on the cabinet doors. Top and bottom are busy. While you have everything ripped apart, be sure to add under cabinet lights! You will love them! Have you considered just ripping out the kitchen and starting over so its exactly what you want? More lights are better! Have them hooked up so you have options about how many are on and dimmers.

You talk about OCD.a lot of people do that. Well I'm here to tell you I suffer from OCD. I take medication that would knock most to the floor. People always say I'm a little OCD about my be one thing. My OCD can ruin a day or weeks. Somre use it as a joke or a saying. I know that you did not say that to hurt me. I like to tell people about what I gone through in my life. I'm still happy about your new home. You have a wonderful family. I'm also glad that you got rid of the RV. I would put formal dining room in the front by the front door and living area in front of fire place with dinette to the left. Keep it clean and neat near front door. It's always gonna be messy with living room cramed up by front door.

I'd still make that the dining room area, makes so much more senss with space and the views. Contractors and the word "custom" can get expensive. Hit your local box store up and have them design and quote, would probably shave 15 percent off the build out.

Just a great video..Changing plans will never stop, which is the best part of life….My daughter has chickens and her children are always stepping in their poo… she absolutely hates it and the kids don't want to play outside because of it….Making a portable fenced in coop would make it more managable. Just a suggeston.

Try and get a designer to help with lighting. We did the same thing as y’all with an older home and she was worth the money. We would have never thought to put all the pot lights in our kitchen and dinning room that she did. They just know.
