Choosing the Unchosen
(1 Samuel 16:6-13)
1. Selection isn’t based on presentation, it’s based on potential.
(1 Samuel 16:7) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”
2. God has a tendency to put our preconceived notions on notice.
(1 Corinthians 1:26-31) Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. 27 Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 28 God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world-what is viewed as nothing-to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, 29 so that no one may boast in his presence. 30 It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us-our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption- 31 in order that, as it is written: Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.
3. Uncovering someone’s dormant capacity requires connection to bliss and the burden.
(1 Samuel 19:18 csb) So David fled and escaped and went to Samuel at Ramah and told him everything Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel left and stayed at Naioth.
(Ephesians 1:4-6 csb) For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him.[c] 5 He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.
