Tel Aviv is my absolute favorite city in the world. Love it here and hope to make it my permanent home one day (hopefully i get rich enough) The shekel is a pretty solid currency and Israel has a strong economy. The reason everything is extremely expensive is because Tel Aviv is currently the most expensive city on the planet according to Forbes and many other indexes. The cost of living in Tel Aviv is currently the highest in the world. I dont recall ever getting a decent cup of latte or americano for under 14 NIS or 4.25 USD For reference its about 3.3 NIS to 1 USD

As an Israeli-Canadian your last few videos have been really lovely to watch. Glad you've enjoyed your trip (minus the food poisoning -- sorry!) and that you had lots to explore as a vegan. Tel Aviv is always a treat for vegans. Thank you as well for coming to *listen* about the conflict and focus on learning and sharing first hand experiences. As foreigners, that is the absolute best thing you can do. Looking forward to your next adventure!

You guys are great. I visited Israel, for the first time, this past April. I spent 11 days of my vacation and I agree with your assessment about some of the prices, especially when it comes to accommodations and culinary in general. Pricey, indeed. Regardless of how pricey certain things can be in Israel, I loved every minute of my time over there. 😎

Just an FYI - Jewish food is a mix between Eastern Europe (Ashkenazi Jews) like you are familiar with, and Middle Eastern cuisines (as there are many Jews that immigrated from North Africa, Iraq, Iran Turkey, etc). What you see on American TV shows usually represent Ashkenazi Jewish culture because most Jews in the US are Ashkenazi. While in Israel more than 50% of Jews are Mizrahi.

It is hard to visit the whole country in 9 days, even though Israel is tiny, but you maximized your stay there and managed to visit key places and did some very cool activities. I hope you will come back sometime in the future and visit the northern part of the country. The city of Haifa, the northern "rocky" beaches near Rosh Hanikra, lake Kinneret - better known as the Sea of Galilee and the most beautiful part of Israel in my opinion - the Golan Heights - picturesque nature with lots of history. cool video! about what was said on the topic of "shabat", this is not exactly true. almost every hotel is observant, because otherwise they would losse a lot of religous jews who won't come to the hotel (it is called "teudat kashrut" which mean the place complitely fulfills all the judaism rules). but, it is not really an issue in other places. in a secular place like tel - aviv, or pretty much everywhere except of certain places and religous cities, a lot of things are still open in Shabat. also in places like Judda dessert (where the dead sea is) and in the north of the country there are a lot of muslims or druze who would be happy to serve you in Shabbat.

Beautiful city. Sorry about the health issues but it points out the wisdom of traveling in one's younger years. You can recover more quickly from setbacks. As a senior traveler the possibility of medical issues overseas increasingly makes travel riskier. Your age also affords you much more energy (and you two cover ground like jungle cats) and you can experience much more than those of us who need to go pause for naps, meds, and bourbon.

As an Israeli, I really don't like Tel Aviv! This city is full of traffic jams, one of the most expensive cities in the world, and everything is a mess there
