This medieval village, with human occupation since prehistory, developed mainly in the medieval period. After its reconquest to the Moors, the first king of Portugal donated it to its daughter D. Teresa, who in 1180 attributed to him the first charter and its coat of arms, giving origin to the coat of Ourém. In the course of the elevation of the town the head of the county, the third count, D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, and above all the fourth Count D. Afonso (his grandson and grandson of King D. João I) impressed him with great brilliance. This illustrious one of the XV century was responsible for the construction and consolidation of the main monuments of the borough.
