I stopped doing the cash envelopes for all of last year and started going a bit mad on my credit card again after my dad died. I did the same in 2004 when my mum died which is how I got my credit card debt in the first place. I was beating myself up a bit for getting back onto the credit card, so last month I said, enough. And I went back to cash. I only allowed myself £30 of unnecessary, luxury spending in the whole of February and it's made me more determined to do the same for the rest of this year to get rid of my card debt and build up my savings.

hprice1980 well done, that’s brilliant! Don’t beat yourself up though, you are doing something about it and grief is a powerful thing. I stopped my credit card 10 years ago and pay cash or use a debit card for everything. I now have no debt at all. Keep going it can be done.

I am so proud of you. Most importantly that you allowed yourself time to grieve. Without that time it's hard to see a debt free future but look at you! You're doing it! Sending you a big hug. xo's

I’m so sorry for your loss. Grief is overwhelming and it can really impact your lifestyle. I’m impressed that you know why you lost control of your spending. That shows a lot of self awareness. You know what triggers you to spend excessively and that is helpful going forward. You are getting a handle on it again and 2019 holds a lot of promise for you and your financial life. I’m cheering for you!

Our March budget is up and running! We have our 15th anniversary this month and I’m tagging along on a work conference with the Hubs to roll our anniversary celebration into a little trip, so we included some money for that in our budget this month. Otherwise it was business as usual just like your budget appears to be. It’s so great to get into the groove of budgeting, right? You get better at it every time you do it because a lot of the expenses are similar to the previous month or to that month last year.

I do the same type of budget by breaking mine of into 4 weeks - I get paid bi-weekly and my husband gets paid weekly -so we can see what is coming out each week and how much we need to have for that week. It really helps.
