Yes please! My 2nd grader is using TGTB Level 2 after having used Level 1. But I question whether it offers enough math sense. Just wondering if I should just make a mid year switch to Beauty and Truth. But thinking about cost ... I already paid for TGTB and then B&T will cost money. (I also looked at CM Arithmetic but it looks too repetitive and I think that may not go well with my son). However those were my top 2 after looking at tons of math curriculum. So anyhow, yes please, make a video on B&T!

Hi Sarah Ruth, fellow AGFer here.This was great. I have 5 students and we are doing 4 different Math programs! We started Teaching Textbooks before I found CM, so my oldest (9th grade/Form 3) has continued on with that. My next oldest is a 7th grade Form 3 and math just became an absolute fight every day using TT. We took a break, last year he did Life of Fred but it wasnt at his level and he basically lost the year. We're trying Khan Academy now and he absolutely loves it. What a relief. My next is solely using Life of Fred. He is NOT an average child and is highly gifted in language but I wasn't sure he'd ever be able to add and subtract even basic numbers. He goes very slowly and mulls over everything and comprehends it all since it is language based. Fascinating to me how his brain works. He's progressing but we are just going at his pace. Lil Sis is bouncing around and doing TT for now. And with my youngest I've just started the same math as you - the SCM Arithmetic by Richele. Took me five kids to find something that I like but I'm really grateful at least one kid will get a CM math education! Beauty and Truth intrigues me. I may try that for my younger daughter who is using TT right now. Thanks for a good video.

After 3 years of homeschool the kids decided to try "real" school this past year. We have a great local private Islamic school, BUT we happily decided to go back to homeschool this year so now I'm trying to get all back into the groove. Are you still enjoying Simply Charlotte Mason Math? We were looking at singapore math but Im still open.

Great video! I'm having the most difficult time choosing between SCM Arithmetic and Beauty & Truth Math for 2nd grade. I think SCM will be easier to implement, but I like that B&T has the visual printouts like a ten frame, number/dot charts, etc. I would like to see the inside of your children's travelers notebooks!

Same.. my Kids are really behind & it was suggested to do B&T, but I can’t tell if there’s actual papers to write on inside the packet & do all of their printouts go along with a book from Strayor? Is that not too much to flip back & forth? Too expensive? Also, that one blue book that they suggest to read along with SCM… is it necessary to get and read as a parent?

Regarding beauty and truth there aren't workbook pages or pages to write on. The student has problems to work in the Strayer Upton book. It honestly wasn't super pricy. @@Stazi24

​​@@Stazi24 The blue book by Ballard is not necessary. It's there to explain their philosophy so you understand why things are done a certain way. You don't write in hr Beauty & Truth printouts but use a graph paper notebook like the ones SCM sells (or just print free online). The guides and Strayer-Upton books are non-consumable. You can get the SU books as PDFs and keep them in a binder separate from the guides to minimize flipping back and forth (it's also easier to leave open than the small hardcovers).

We had the same experience with TGTB math. I started my oldest (twins) with it and then in 3rd grade it switched to the simply math and it was instantly a no go. The lessons were so so long and dull. And through that I learned they definitely needed a more mastery based math with some review. We switched to Apologia math and it is perfect for us. A little hands on/activity, shorter workbook lessons, whole chapters on one topic with review of what was previously learned. My youngest daughter uses MWC which I’ve had to modify. The super lengthy teacher portion has bored her to literal tears BUT she loves the work book pages. So I look over the lesson and simplify it significantly and just go over what I know she needs. It has changed her attitude significantly. It’s def not ideal but so far it’s working. I’ll have to see how the rest of the year goes and see what I want to do this fall.

I’ve heard so many folks love MWC. I have their games books but it was so much prep, I gave up 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m actually now using TG&TB with my youngest again. He wasn’t doing well with the Charlotte Mason Arithmetic. I’m modifying TG&TB and I have no clue if I’ll use it for long or not.

@@kindletogetherness Apologia math is much more low prep then MWC but still similar teaching methods. They do a whole chapter on one topic before they move on all while reviewing what they previously learned. It’s my favorite Math!

Waaaay to gooo! What a wonderful feeling it is to wrap up the first year! You did it! Personally, I like Math-U-See and have heard great things about it. If it is working well for you and your child, I would not switch. With Math, I think staying with one curriculum is a good choice until that curriculum is not a good fit anymore.

Thank you so much for your video! I have been wanting to hear about Beauty and truth. I spent so much time stressing about math and picked SCM and it’s been a good fit! We had a baby and I just knew I needed something simple to get through and desired it to be charlotte mason. We have been happy with it but I have always been curious about B&T. I had mostly not picked it because I didn’t want to take the time to print it out and figure it out. I just came across your videos and love them!

We use Rod and Staff (more traditional math) for my oldest and it has worked well. But she is more self motivated and enjoys self teaching and honestly other than check her work and the odd help, I don't do anything for her with it. That's not R&S curriculum that's just what worked for her, they have intense teacher lessons as it can be for home or school. But that didn't work with my second. Praise the Lord we found Richelle's through SCM and it has been a blessing. She just started book 4 even though she's 11. We go at her pace and it has been amazing to see my third and fourth go through it too! I'm debating when to start my 5th child in it as she just turned 5 but is sooooo eager to do some school work. We may just wait till 6 though as I did with number 4.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience with math in your homeschool. This video was helpful. We are thinking of using SCM this fall for my oldest. I’m hoping it’s a good fit. Quick question- would you recommend SCM for grades1-5 and then suggest B+T series for 6-12? Do you feel it’s a nice transition from one to the other? Or would you suggest starting with B+T from the beginning?

To be entirely honest, I can't say. Due to my son being ahead of the releases of SCM arithmetic, I finally had to move to something else. It was sad for us because I certainly love that series, but I couldn't hold him back waiting on each release.

I believe so, but it’s a really slow process. I wish it were faster because my upcoming 3rd grader is 2/3 the way through book 3 and will likely finish book 4 this coming year.

I am going to circle back to SCM math with my youngest after watching this video! It was working for her and then I switched out of it for all the wrong reasons I think. On another note, I have a handful of resources, mainly enrichment from SCM but am starting AGF this year, I really like what I see. I would love to hear your thoughts on AGF vs. SCM for the core curriculum. Have you done a video on that?

I have not. I’ve only looked at SCM as a core, but never used it as a core curriculum, so I’d be uncomfortable making a whole video comparing them. I can say that part of what drew me to AGF was the 4 year history cycle (students go through each part of history 3 complete times of doing all forms with AGF).

Thank you so much for sharing! Math was also a struggle for me with many tears growing up and I dont want it to be thay way for my kids. I've been on a mission to find something that works well for my oldest who is going into "8th grade" and not loving math at all. I picked up a Life of Fred and am also not sold on the idea that it is a full curriculum. I'm going to check out your other suggestions and am definitely going to grab the Charlotte Mason math for my 6yo and give it a try! I feel my 9yo is past those CM books like you said yours was, so we are actually using tgatb, but I also agree that there's a lot of busy work there. I've given myself permission to skip a lot of the extra work with him😅 I'd love to see a walk through of one of the CM lessons!

Good for you for knowing that you can skip what your kiddos don't need. I wish The Simply CM Arithmetic had book 5 ready now. It is launching this Fall. I plan to go back to it with my eldest who is 10.

@aworkofheart_monique My son is going into 8th grade. He went through Saxon 8/7 and nearly died/very much hated math by the end. I felt terrible! We did a speedy summer by using Master Books "Principles in Mathematics" and the accompanying videos from Master Books Academy, which is used normally for 7th & 8th graders. He liked it much more. He is going to be using Jacobs Elementary Algebra with Climber Higher Math teachers that specifically teach from a Charlotte Mason perspective. Hope this helps!

Oh fun! I wanted badly to not switch out of TG&TB math. We really enjoyed our first years with them, but then it became an issue with the new layout, etc. I was thankful for other choices. How do you like SCM so far? Which book are you in?

Hello Randi, I did get it with my bundle and watched parts. I think it’s useful if you’re not wholly familiar with the CM principles for Math. I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary.

I like this one and have had it for 7 years. It only does 6 sheets at a time though, unless you buy the larger capacity. No. These books are Simply Charlotte Mason Arithmetic and Strayer Upton math. Neither come with worksheets.
